CrazyDe1: Don't spam or do anything that dirty again please.

To the others, wow you've had a job, that certainly doesn't make you a better person. I've worked since I was 16 but I don't see anything wrong with not doing so. One of my goals in life is to make enough money so that I can try to be sure to give me kids a little extra growing up that my family couldn't afford. Part of that would be them not having to work. Life is short, have fun, don't worry about work as some kind of indicator of your life.

Yep. I got a job at 16 (I wanted a job at 14, but my dad wouldn't let me get it) and starting at 17 I've worked long hours every week, barring a few unemployed weeks. Just because you work a lot of hours doesn't make you better. Heck, sometimes it puts you at a disadvantage.

My dad moved out of our apartment when I was 18, so I had to learn financial responsibility quickly. ;)

I agree. Lots of people go through high school and college without holding down paying jobs and actually turn out to be worthwhile, responsible, contributing members of society. Neither hardship while growing up nor a lack of it are any guarantee of a successful life.

I think the title should be changed to "How many of you have a job and don't work(AKA post on ATOT all day)? Skoorb would be there. Heck I think all the lifers would be there.

hmmm that is why they call it cutting the apron strings....I guess it's safe for us to assume you are still a virgin too ;)

My mom still (I am 32) wishes I never moved out, nor my brother move 1500 miles away....but that's life. If my wife and I decide to move to Japan (she can make bank there and in my line of work all I need is an internet connection), then my mom is going to be devastated.....(my dad may pay me of course to go away ;) ).

When I was in HS I worked a bank job and later on added in a Delivery job my friends all worked at, mostly as an excuse to see the girl that would become my ex-wife (her parents thought nothing bad could happen while I was working...the feet on my windshield stated otherwise).

However, my father also covered my gas bill of $300 per month (1966 mustang GT), the purchase of the car and restoration of it $40-50k (not that that was it's resale value....that was the cost of the parts and labor with us doing most of it), my $250 insurance payment, etc. The idea was that I saved my money and I did. I was able to do the first 5 years of education on about $7k in additional loan money.

Did these payments bother my dad? no, he is lucky to be able to have a great job and income. That said, my parents also ate only noodles with butter as a treat about the first year or so of my life. My mom also had a car with the antenna duct-taped on for a few years of my early life.

Everything you have said in the past that was unethical is now made clear by this statement....it's like an ending to a movie where all the loose ends are tied together with one scene.

We all now completely understand that you are one of the slum-lords of the internet.

asians (not 100% westernized ones anyway) usually don't place much importance on "losing virginity"

If I recall, caitlion had posted a thread about how to properly give two weeks notice at her current job so that she can persue a new one. I could be wrong though...

yes, and for the next two weeks i will be working both jobs. after that i will be full-time at compusa. i also go to high school and starting today i am taking one class at a community college. i dont mean this thread in an "im better than you" way... i just dont understand how people can use school or something as an excuse.

and yes i live with my mom, but i am only 17 and cant move out. if i could i would gladly do so. not that living at home is bad, but i cant wait to have my own place and my own stuff and.. yeah. i also buy most of my clothes and pay for my car, phone, etc.

You work at CompUSA? That's tight. I open you know your computer stuff! And if not, what are ATOTers for? hehe.

I should use you as an example. My roommate is spoiled like a mofo. He's about to hit 21 in February and has had jobs here and there but nothing long. I swear, sometimes, when I'm in the room with him, he's on the phone with his mom asking her to put money into his bank account. It's like $20 here or $40 here. I'm telling you caitlion, it's so lame sometimes. I would often say to him, "Dude, you need to fuvken as your mom money for food? That's just weak." His parents pay for everything. Let me start by naming a few.

His parents pay for:
-His car (Toyota Land Crusier 1976 which gets like 140 miles to the TANK...that's right...TANK)
-His gas (also super weak)
-His college tuition and his rent for the townhouse along with the utility bills. They just cut him a check.)
-His books for college (his name writes him a blank check for the books which in turn my roommate sells back to the bookstore at the end of the semester and POCKETS that cash)
-His fuvken cell phone
-His dad's company paid for his ATI Radeon 9700 Pro RETAIL
-80% of his computer

The list just goes on caitlion. Before winter break came along, I asked him what he was going to do. He said he was going on vacation and going to Lake Tahoe and whatnot. I then tell him why don't you get a fuvken job and quit leeching off your parents. He fires back telling me that it's winter break and I'm going to enjoy my vacation. I, in turn, fire back telling him "WITH what money?" He didn't say anything back. One time I had dinner with his parents along with him and we were all talking about school and break. I immediately lashed out and said "What you need to do is to get a job and quit bumming off your parents." His dad immediately took my hand and shooked it and said "thank you for clarifying this with my son." My roommate then had the nerve to say "I'm going to milk them as long as I can." If I was his dad, I would have immediately took that into offense. I live with two other roommates and one of them happens to be a friend from high school. He complains about the high electricity bill we get sometimes cause of my roommate which lives with me. Well..let me clarify. I have 3 other roommates. The spoiled one and the other roomate are pretty much losers. MY spoiled roommate doesnt do anything else but playing Jedi Knight II all day long when he's in school and listens to music. That is what he does ALL day. My other roommate plays videogames along with watching anime ALL day. So pretty much these guys stay home during school. That's it. Unless they have to go to class, they are there playing games or watching anime. My spoiled roommate complains to me and tells me tell my other roommate to quit complaining about the bill. I fire back telling my spoiled roommate that he doesn't go to mommy or daddy for a check for the utility bills. I also even said that maybe I should call his parents up and tell them NOT to pay for his utilities anymore and ask how would he feel. He didn't say anything. I do admit, my roommate is smart and priviledged to have attended a $10,000 private high school for four years (which cost more than SJSU), but everything is handed to him. But sometimes spoiled mofos can't realize the value of earning something. Me? I don't take sh!t from no one. I earn my keep and no one can ever take that feeling away from me. I work right now and I pay for everything I use.

I'm sorry but the man is about to turn 21 and still has to leech off his parents. So fuvken lame.

those are exactly the kind of people i HATE. im sorry you have to live with him.

i dont see why people use the excuse that theyre in college? thats so stupid.

Because they can. So are you saying if you had the opportunity to go to college, live comfortably, and not have to work you wouldn't?

no, i wouldnt. i wouldnt even do it now in high school. working is important to me. having my OWN money is important to me. not being a spoiled bitch is important to me.

Hmm the point was it's not the importance of virginity it's the importance of one's own life. What may work fine back home is a whole different matter here.

I am married to a Japanese woman....she is only about 2-3 years westernized....and the over 30 years prior 100% Japan, she also has agreed some 'kids' take too much advantage....she works with and looks early/mid 20's in a fashion clothing/club wear trendy store. We live in a affluent area where the kid working at minimum wage may have pulled up in a Mercedes or BMW :)

Did that until about 2 years ago. My wife was pregnant and we decided that between my health (not great anymore) and my daughter that i would get a job working out of the house.

heh my income went from close to 100k a year to 30k a year :(

So i still work. but only about 2 hours a day.

working 2hrs/day and make 30k a year? where do I sign up? :p

Yes, I could find work I've been doing during college pretty easily, but I'm done doing that, so I'm looking for something more serious and challenging.

Wait... your in HS. Nevermind, I won't bother finishing this post. Silly HS kids.

haha yeah.. silly high school kids assuming that people can actually have some responsibility AND go to school. what was i thinking?! and the thought of having a entry-level job for money while you look for something youll want to stick with is just fvcking crazy!!

edit : whoops i cant type :p

i agree. there are definitely undeniable advantages to being independent early. but i don't think the alternative would hurt too much... i dunno...

Working while attending high school requires absolutely no effort. Maintaining a job while attending college full-time for the most part is not an easy task.

I worked 40+ hours per week in highschool and still graduated with honors. While in college, I was unable to maintain the same hours since homework and studying actually matters. Then again, some people go to college and have fake majors which allow them to do as they wish.

I've been working since 14. Numerous clerical and data entry jobs through HS (even bought a new car then, with some help), never tried retail or food service because the former is where the money is when you don't have any real experience.

I graduated to IT work with quite a few internships while at college and then onto the real world. Never stopped come to think of it.
