I was just about to go pick this up after finishing Bioshock. Does one of the many dissatisfied customers in thise thread want to sell me their copy? :p

I have a feeling I will have a similar experience as to when I played Far Cry. I played through it the first time and found it kind of boring, but replayed it a year later after getting new hardware, when I could crank the graphics and resolution on it, and it was like an entirely different game. At the very least I'm interested to see what it does to my rig.

COD4 is as addicting as crack. Crysis made my video card over heat.

It was a pretty good game, with the exception of the no gravity level. I'll probably play through it again in a couple years when it can be run maxed. I didn't think it was anything ground breaking really but a good game nonetheless.

I was going to get Crysis but all the complaints of how well it plays on today's system by users and reviewers has made me put it off for a while. Maybe later on when better cards are out I'll pick it up. Its no longer high on my 'To Get' list.

What spawned this thread was from over in the video forums. Everyone asks when considering buying a new card how well does it play Crysis? But my thinking was that few people actually play the game based upon the people I play with etc. Luckily COD4 and UT3 etc. run fairly well on today's mid-range gpu's.
I maybe should wish Crysis was more popular, and would drive the need for faster new video cards rather than the incremental updated cards that manufacturers seem content to offer us.

My remarks may offend some, but PC enthusiasts are like metros, only instead of being into trendy fashions, they are into that niche's trends. Some one they respect comments about it, or says its the new standard, and the ditto heads are on it.

I still occasionally see a thread where someone says they still rely heavily/put a lot of emphasis on 3DMark performance, when making a new GPU purchase. Look, it has its uses, and they are indeed useful, but allowing it to influence how you spend your money? And some wonder why the IHVs are always optimizing and "cheating" for it.

I enjoyed the singleplayer campaign of Crysis more than COD4, up until the caves there are more ways to go about the campaign. I didn't like re-playing COD4, it was exactly the same. I don't like the multiplayer of either game. Now that the Crysis SDK has been released there will be a lot of full conversion mods coming out shortly that look like a lot of fun.

I'll play Crisis once a mid-range card can play it at highest settings 4xAA 8xAF @ 1680x1050. I guess I will be waiting a while.

I played through it part way, found it kinda humdrum, turned on the cheats, and then played the rest of it. It was more fun when I could just fire rockets at everything indiscriminately :p

I played through the campaign, it was a fun ride, worth my money for sure. I will be playing through it again at some point in the future with a better rig, the same thing i did with farcry.

I kind of hear what you are saying. I played through it once and like it (not loved) and yes it is mostly on my system now to show people eye candy and as a bench for my system performance. However I did just start playing it again after I upgraded my system from a X2 4400amd w/ x1900 to a e8400@3.8 and 2 hd3870's and let me tell you it is much better experience and much better eye candy. Still nothing I will remember for years to come as a top game of all time.

Crysis is an excellent game, and even if you didn't like it, you still have to appreciate what it has done for gaming. The graphics alone push it into next next generation.

The gameplay mechanics are unique and allow for no 2 scenarios to play out the same way. Such as that if you got bored playing, it's because you weren't putting much effort into it. You get out of it what you put into it.

It's a flagship game that I think any other FPS will be continually compared to for years to come.

I played through it once, but I'm waiting for better hardware or drivers or patches or SOMEthing, cuz I'm sick of ~20fps. I will play through it again when I can attain at least 30 fps at all times with everything on very high.

I didn't jump on it when it was released, I played the demo. I'll pick it up after an upgrade and when it is bargain binned.

How much "effort" should I put into a game for it to be fun?

Crysis for me was mediocre. I loved the graphics and the sound, but the gameplay had some issues.

In the beginning it's identical with Farcry. You drive the same cars, same boats and kill the same mindless morons that shot you. By the time you get to the aliens, and the game starts to become interesting, it ends. Not to mention that at the last level I put every graphical option on low just to have some kind of playability so that I can finish it, and all this on a 8800 GT OC. But hey, it has the best graphics in the world. ;)

I can't seem to be able to PM you, so shoot me a PM when you are done with it and I will probably take it off your hands. :)

I played it through it twice in single player, fun but not as enjoyable as COD4 single player.

Yeah, there were some amazing moments with SAS in COD4. This is clearly one of the best shooters ever made.
