Back before Christ came if you believed in God and broke one of His commandments, you had to sacrafice a lamb. Not just any lamb either, had to be the cream of your crop....one with any blemmish or anything, had to be near perfect. So you couldn't go take a lamb that had a broken leg that you were going to kill anyway...it had to actual mean something.

Now the Seven Deadly sins is another matter.

1. Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

2. Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

3. Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

4. Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

5. Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

6. Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

7. Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

I hate to get technical on all of you, but here is the problem. You don't have to actually commit the sin physically for it to be breaking a commandment. If you even look at a woman impurely, you have committed adultry. Ever thought about killing someone or hated them enough to kill them? There goes number 7. So I would have to say just about every person I have ever talked to is probably a 10.

If it wasn't for Christ, I would have to go buy a lot of lambs just so I could take them home and kill them.

And not to get too technical on ya, you'd have to actually take those lambs to sanctuary, have the sins be transfered from you to the lamb, then sacrafice the lamb on the altar of burnt offerings. After you were done with the lamb, the High Priest took the blood of the lamb into the "Holy Place" within the sanctuary and sprinkled the blood in front of the veil by the altar of incense.

So your sin pretty much went from you, to the lamb, to the sanctuary.

What made the sanctuary so important? Well, inside the sanctuary was the "Holy Place" where the High Preist did his work, and then the "Most Holy Place" where the Ark of the Covenant was held. Anyone who touched the Ark other then a High Preist was killed instantly :Q

Luckily for us, Christ is everything mentioned above.
