how many Oblivion Gates in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion??

i thought there were 16 (not including the quest gates) but I just closed another today!! :Q

man this game is so fricking amazing. I plan to replay it when I get a sweet computer that can run it without me having to lower the details completely and have the resolution set at 640X480 :)

meh. they ain't so unique to me. do one you do them all. gets pretty tiresome and boring after 2 or 3.

the 'rewards' are good for closing Oblivion gates . . . Sigil Sones provide the best enchantments. There are about 7 random planes you can enter with each Oblivion gate [Quicksave before activating a gate to get one you 'like'].

ON AVERAGE it takes FIVE minutes to close an Ob gate . . . run ACROSS the lava and straight to the Tower . .. . you can even RUN PAST the enemies and just grab the stone . . . then you're down to about 3 minutes. :p

BTW, "Quake Ruin" and The powerful HATRED weapons are hidden there.

Yes . . . they get 'thick' as you progress ie the MQ . . . i even found one after 1,000 hours [#88 or 89] even though i had been there before . . . they evidently do NOT respawn . . . unless there is a 'glitch' - and it has been reported many times that they DO reopen in the same place.


. .. think positive , , , 90 Sigil Stones :) . . . you DO know how to get the ones you want?
[q/s before you grab. . . QL if it's a 'wrong' one] ;)

Quake Ruin is just a well hidden tilting tower . . . otoh, Hatred's Heart and Soul are very powerful weapons.

do a search on the oblivion 'cheats & hints' forums . . . i will link if you can't find it. :p

Rather than start my own "OMFG Oblivion Rox" thread...

I started playing again last week. I'm using the edic slow leveling mod. so I can savor it longer. I'm level 12 and finished the thieves guild quests last night. This game is simply amazing, and with a few mods to match your pace and style, absolute game of the year material. The last 5 theif guild quests were total nail biters for my unarmored Nord thief. Awesome game!

Apop....I knew you would be on here....and I don't mean to thread hijack but I have a question about the sigil stones that you get in the gates.....I did a lot of reading on these and of course I played and played to get sigil stones with the "Chameleon" trait.
I get up to the stone , do a quick save... and grab the stone...
and it's not the one I want...
So I reload my save , grab the stone....and it's the same one , over , and over , and over...I never get a different one. Am I missing something? This game haunts me!!!!!!!

That's weird... You're quick saving before you "activate" the stone? And not to insult your intelligence: but you ARE checking the actual abilities of the stone, not just reading the name, right?

could be a glitch . . . the stones are supposed to be 'random', but the ones you want - 'chameleon', 'absorb xxx', etc. - cycle much more slowly. It has taken 20+ QS-QLs to get the one Maxx wants ... of course, just before you QS make sure your inventory is set to come up on the stone so you don't have to do extra clicks . ..

... i usually did this when i was doing something else. ;)

and the ONLY way you can get 117 gates is with a cheat. . . . i know we used 'recurring hell' mini mod to reopen gates . . . Maxx has closed 163 Oblivion Gates :p

lets go over this Sigil-thing once more . . . (1) get your inventory 'ready' and (2) "F-5" . . . (3) 'grab' the stone . . . (4) WAIT till it says "...Stone added" . . . (5) Check your inventory . . . (6) "F-8" if it's the wrong one . . . ;)


Make SURE your are not missing a crucial step. :p

but how is that possible if the gates don't continue to open as you progress? i'm soooo confused.

Man I must be behind or something. I close the required ones for the main quest and that was it for me.
Too boring.

Yeah, I did my first gate last night (blocking Kvatch) and it was lack luster compared to the main game environments. I guess hell kills you by boredom and bad level design. :p

Yea , it's pretty hard to mess that up , but I bet I found a way to do it!! LOL. I think I may have been doing it to fast and checking my inv. before the "item added" prompt came up. reloading , grabbing again , quickly checking...I'll set it back up to open my inv. when I pick it up. and wait the extra 3-4 seconds.

the gates DO Open as you progress thru the MQ. When you complete the MQ, the gates permanenetly shut UNLESS you use a mod to reOpen them. ;)

. . . and don't think of it as "163" gates . . . rather 163 Sigil Stones

think of it this way, you are only 'off' by forty. :p

FACT: there are at least 90 unique Random Wilderness Oblivion Gates in Oblivion.

This is something that I hated about Oblivion, it is a time sink and it is repetitive as hell.

letsee . . . i spent a total of 1016 hours with Oblivion to *finish* it . . . that's 6096 minutes . . . 450 minutes is less than 1% of the total. :p
