I occassionally have a diet soda (hey I was born a Hoosier ;)) but stick mainly to water....I actually get water cravings throughout the day, that and beer cravings but until they install a kegerator at work I'll have to make due with just water. :D

The steak myth was busted on TV on the Mythbusters. It was simply caramelized by the sugar.

In fact, the only Coke myth that stood up was that Coke is effective at cleaning up blood, and as a chrome cleaner. And that has more to do with the carbonation than anything else.

Must have missed that mythbusters. I love that show :D. :music:....Science!.....:music:

Would you want any of those symptoms happening to you?
Keep us posted.

Looks respectable? To who? :p

"aspartame may actually stimulate appetite and bring on a craving for carbohydrates"

err.... I drink about half a can of diet soda once a day.... I drink it because the 128 oz of water i drink dont usually fill me up, if anything water stimulates my appetite on its own. Diet however makes me feel full after leass than a can..... so maybe im different than this study

"Whether you are trying to lose pounds or maintain your weight, using an artificial sweetener such as aspartame does not seem to have any significant effect on weight control. Those extra calories you saved by drinking a diet pop won't make much of a difference if you still need to satisfy your hunger and indulge in several cookies later"

what bs... lol

Zero soda a day. Now if you want to talk about coffee or water then we can discuss some numbers.

I usually have 1 liter of water in the morning and 1 liter of pop with lunch in the afternoon.

Sometimes I have a glass or two of pop at home at night.

I try very hard to stick to water and 100% real juices, but now and then I'll have a bottle of 7UP Plus, which has like 0 calories or carbs and actually tastes pretty decent.

I agree though, sugar heavy sodas are horrible for you, a liter bottle of Dew is worse for your body than a whole meal at McD's.

I don't drink any soda at all, except maybe like once in a while, and only small amounts. I do, however, chug 6 protein shakes a day, and it's hell of a lot more beneficial to me than soda.

Diet soda's/ sugarless gum are even worse with that Aspartame crap in it.

Thats 1 of many links concerning the harmful effects of aspartame.
Splenda isn't any better either.

Oh gawd, not again.

You do realize that none, not a single one of the claims made on that quack website is substantiated by repeatable, peer reviewed studies?

It's bullsh!t.

Here's a start:

http://www.snopes.com/toxins/aspartame.asp

Next, ask for REAL studies substantiating the claims made on the Aspartame hysteria websites, not anecdotal claims. You'll find exactly 0.

Aspartame is made by monsanto, I am a chemist and did several research projects concerning aspartame and sweetners in college. I would definetly have to say diet cola is worse the regular cola, with the exeception to obese or diabetics. Now as far as supporting monsanto in anything, I am afraid I could not ethically do that.
Here is a list of the fun things monsanto does or has done, notice at the bottom are favorite diet sweetner!
Anniston, Alabama
Times Beach, Missouri
PCBs
Dioxins
DDT
Agent Orange
Saccharin
Roundup
Terminator seeds
Bovine growth hormone
Aspartame

ok if you only believe what the government tells you, go hear and put monsanto in the search bar!

Name a major chemical company who hasn't made mistakes in the past, or have/had a superfund hysteria site?

Oh, and many of the things you listed were, and are, very useful chemicals that not only raised the standard of living for humans, but increased our lifespans and saved millions.

I agree 100% with your post, but still don't take in any substancial amounts of Aspartame. If it didn't already taste like crap I might think about it again. As it is now there is enough anedotal evidence to at least take a second look at its use. (private sector of course, no government intervention needed nor required)

What was our standard of living and lifespans before the advent of modern chemistry and modern chemical companies?

BTW, the banning of DDT has cost hundreds of millions of lives in malaria deaths, mostly in third world countries. But that doesn't matter to clueless, spoiled, brainwashed little college kids like you, so long as you "feel" like you're "saving" the "environment."

And make no mistake, I am no "Monsanto fanboy." I am a modern chemical fanboy. I have the objectivity and knowlege to realize how much chemicals have helped us.

The odds are neither of us would be here were it not for modern chemicals.

Ok first off it really isnt your place to make any character judgements, but if it matters I am none of what you said, secondly I am also a fan of modern chemicals, I think science has done a lot to help our lives, now that has nothing to do with this conversation. My point was on Monsanto alone. I won't add anything to this, I think everyone should do their own research, I won't spoon feed you. If it's worth knowing and you want to be informed why not take a look for yourself. I have read a ton of case law concerning monsanto (because there is a lot out there) and none of it suggests they do anything to benefit society, in fact most often they are on the other side of the fence, undermining governments or its people for the sake of profits. If you think putting your faith in Monsato's philanthropy will make your life better, you will be greatly suprised. How do I benifit, or others for that matter, by making monsanto look bad? How do they benefit by making themselves look good? Who is most likely to spin the truth?

My original challenge stands:

Name a major chemical company who hasn't made mistakes in the past, or have/had a superfund hysteria site?

I do not think Monsanto is altruistic. I never made any such claim. However, to single them out for the very same mistakes every chemical company has made is rather unfair.
