Do you guys know what "evangelical" means? I've heard the term alot lately, since the neolibs need to blame the election on someone. The party that is so quick to call everyone a bigot is quick to target a specific group of people and attack them.
An Evangelical is someone who preaches the Gospel. Pentecostal, fundamanetalist Christian or Holy Roller is something entirely different. I'm a Christian, and I have issues with fundamentalists.
You love it, it lets you be a Martyr like your Savior.Originally posted by: MidasKnight

Very good reply. But here in this P&N forum there are people who hate the religious and it doesn't mater to them as they are all the same. Very bigoted in my view and yes they broad brush as well as generalize just as other members here are bigoted in the way they post or reply towards minorities / Gays ect.

The last two questions in your poll are redundant.
I had a very interesting experience with an evangelical city worker in Ohio. After some in-depth disucssions I had with him, I developed a great deal of respect for him. I am not a fundamentalist Christian - I don't believe in the Bible literally (what people here seem to be calling 'evangelicals'), but I believe that there is really very little difference in the outlook of a fundamentalist Christian and someone of any other faith or even those without faith. All want what is best for his fellow man. People try to demonize them for their method of communicating their religion. My question is: when did discussion of religion become taboo in our society? I have had religious discussions with Hindus, Jews, Muslims, and all manner of Christians (including other Catholics), and they all have the same message. So, why is the evangelical message decried with such frequency? Is it the manner in which they present it?
I think what I've come to realize through my religious discourse with members of such a variety of religions is that everyone is at a different place in their journey of faith (or lack thereof). I have a feeling that I know why people get so bent out of shape regarding their evangelization, but I'll wait until someone can answer my question before I put it out there.

Do you consider yourself a born-again? Have you been born-again? Is Jesus Christ your lord and savior and is he the ONLY path to salvation?

WTF kind of line of questioning is that?
Am I on trial here, or are you trying to avoid answering the ONE question that I posed? It isn't even a trick question. I can easily answer your questions but I won't until you can answer the one that I posed, as it is much simpler.Originally posted by: Infohawk

Ah but you are free to practice your archaic mythical beliefs as long as you don't insist that they should be adhered to by those who don't believe them. And if you don't then I fully support your right to practice them. Now if someone in your congregation doesn't practice what they preach then I fully believe that you are within your rights to judge them and exclude then from your rituals.Originally posted by: Rob9874

Because it is so extreme, blind, aggressive, ignorant, and irrational. So, why is the evangelical message decried with such frequency?
See above too.Is it the manner in which they present it?

Real nice, coming from someone who doesn't know the meaning of "born again". (I'll give you a hint, it doesn't mean you're fundamantalist, pentecostal, whacko Christian.)
Yeah, I know. It's my first time using the poll option and I found the process rather non-inutitive. The second question was aimed more to those who haven't had them as friends but just have met some. Also, some buddies showed up just as I was creating the polls and I didn't take the time to formulate the poll questions properly. Sorry.Originally posted by: CycloWizard

In the last few days, Evangelicals have been stereotyped in this forum in one fell swoop and characterized as having certain traits, even being hateful. Red Dawn even drew a parallel to Gays. If someone came in here and stereotyped all gays as lisping, prancing, limp-wristed, effeminate pillow biters, a certain ideological faction would create a disturbance that would register on the Richter scale. If you've met any gays, of course you know that stereotype is nowhere near true, at least for the vast majority.Originally posted by: Bowfinger
Even when the members of a group tend to behave in certain ways, individuals behave individually. Stereotypes are never reliable predictors of individual behavior.

Hey I was just treating the Evangelistas like they treat the Gays. What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander..or should I say the other Goose!Originally posted by: TastesLikeChicken

I really wanted to hear people's experience, but the question had a purpose and a point too, and Bowfinger summed it nicely:

So how is it any more valid when we generalize and stereotype evangelicals, as has been the habit in here the last few days?

No they are not. Most Christians mind their own and live and let live. Unfortunately the Fund A Mental Cases and the Evangelistas don't.Originally posted by: Rob9874

No, most FUNDAMENTALISTS like to tell everyone they're born again. The definition of a Christian is to be born again. Most Christians would tell you they are born again. Not all Christians are fundamentalist weirdos though.
