How many FPS should i expect with FEAR?

Current setup:

AMD 64 3500+
OCZ EL Plantinum Revision 2 1gb dual channel
2 BFG 6800gt oc SLI
Nvidia a8nsli deluxe
2 Raptor drives in raid 0

Nothing over clocked, would like examples with various resolutions at max settings

What resolution are you planning on running? With that SLI setup you should be doing pretty nicely. FEAR pretty much rapes my single 6800GT (only really smooth ~60fps at 1024x768), but you should be fine at 1280x1024 and maybe even 1600x1200 if you don't mind framerates possibly dropping a bit.

i would like to run it at 1680x1050. however inorder for me to do this, i have to edit a file in on of my document folders to do so.

the only choices i have in-game are 1152x852, 1024x768, and lower is there a way to change the game to higher res. from the in-game video settings?

I'm not sure if I've seen any FEAR benchmarks with a 6800GT SLI rig. Maybe you could post some 🙂

This is currently what i do, my question is, is there a way to make it 1680x1050 without changing the file.

Also, im not all to familiar on what or how to do the whole benchmark thing

No, you have to change the file. It's really easy though. Just open the file with notepad, and it will be obvious where to put in your resolution. One tip: if you go into your video settings after you edit the file it will revert back to a non-widescreen res, so once you have the game looking the way want it to, make the settings.cfg file read-only. That way, it can't be overwritten by the FEAR application. Benchmarking is also really easy with FEAR. There is a test button under the graphics card section (not sure exactly what it titled, "test settings" probably), which will run a short benchmark that will tell you your FPS.

Ahh.. ok never thought about making the file read only. thanks for the tip

Yeah, you aren't going to get much out of that system in FEAR, like AV said it brings 7800GTX SLI's to their knees.

But what should i expect though running it at 1680x1050 or at 1280x1024?

Well, my brother's rig which has a 6800nu unlocked and clocked at 430/950 plays fine at 1024x768 with 4AA. Not sure what other settings he's using but you should be about 70-80% faster than him. You could probably play at 1680x1050 just with no AA and possibly with a few of the settings turned down a ittle (volumetric lights, shaders, etc.).

OK this is what i run with the in-game fear test.

Min. - 22
Ave. - 50
Max. - 143

Distribution
1% below 25
27% between 35-40
71% above 40

This is at 1152x864
4x FSAA
everything at Max settings
everythign enabled

Should this be typical with my setup?

sounds good

i have everything maxed at 1280x1024, 2xTRAA (supersampled) 16xAF and its 0% under 25, and about 75% is 40+ (rig in sig)

your set up should easy do the same. just turn the AA down abit.

just use 2xaa or 0xaa the game doesnt really need it all that badly
