I was wondering how many fans people have in their computers.
I have 2 x 80mm in the power supply, 3 x 80mm as intake, 2 x 80mm as exhaust, 1 x 80mm on Heatsink, 2 x 60mm on hard drive, 1 x 60mm on video card, 1 x 40mm on northbridge chipset, 1 x 40mm active RAM cooling
8 x 80mm
3 x 60mm
2 x 40mm

13 fans, no wonder it sounds like an airplane when I turn my computer on

mmm .. how can you stand that much noise?

1 x 80mm Panaflo L1A heatsink
1 x 120 Panaflo exhaust (set to RPM control) via psu
1 x 120 Vantec Intake (set to RPM control) via psu
something on the 380 watt Antec PSU

all in the Sonata. built for quietness.

5x Panaflo L1As @ 5v.
1x Zalman 92mm OP1 fan @ 5v.
1x Zalman 7000Cu @ 1700rpm.
1x Zalman 400w PS. Uses some type of 80mm fan... can't hear it.

That's it. The only way I can tell it's on is the whine and rattle of the HDs. Oh, and in an Antec 1080 case.

We just had this thread in the form of a poll a few months ago. That said, PC++ and:

1 x 120mm Panaflo L1A @ 5V (case fan)

1 x 92mm Panaflo L1A @ 8V (CPU fan)

1 x 92mm L1A @ 5V (HDD cooling)

1 92mm intake front, 1 92mm intake side over cpu area, 2 side intake 80mm over vid card area, 1 80mm exhaust blowhole. all fans controlled by fan speed controller including psu's two fans. all intake fans are filtered by hideous but effective washable furnace filter:) some of the fan speed controlled fans are already stealth vantecs, i don't know how you stand the noise of 13 fans without speed control

1 x 120mm Delta intake over expansion cards, filtered, hooked to fanbus

4 x 80mm NMB (22dB each) - 1 front intake (filtered), 1 rear exhaust, 1 top exhaust, 1 in PSU. Intake and rear exhaust are on a fanbus
1 x 80mm Top Motor - CPU fan
1 x 80mm - 10mm thick, in PSU

1 x 60mm - Radeon 9700 core fan, on a 1U copper cooler

1 x 50mm - nForce2 chipset cooler
---------------------------------------------------
2 intake, 3 exhaust, 4 internal

9 fans total. Granted, it's not silent, but I don't consider it to be loud either. The NMB fans are nearly silent; most of the noise is from the 120mm fan and the 80mm CPU fan, as they are also the highest air-volume movers in the system.

My room is currently 26.5C (80F). In the past hour, the CPU has peaked at 49C, and is currently at 45C. Case temp peak was 32C, current is 28C. So even in a warm room (yes, I like warm, dry air, especially in the winter), the temps are fairly stable through heavy load or idle.

And a bit about the fanbus - it's a cheap little thing from SVC. I got it not so much for the fanbus, but for the front USB ports. Sure the fanbus is nice to have, but I don't know how much I'll need it. And the knobs aren't the best; they don't turn too easily. But the USB ports work just fine. I didn't feel like going to the trouble of making my own front-USB connector setup. And I had a free 3.5" bay begging for something to go in it.
It was fun reading the VERY poorly translated instructions too. Quite a few things from SVC like that (fanbuses, external drive enclosures) have translation errors, like "System Requirements" - that is printed on the box as "System Request." Close, I guess.

some of my fans are Thermaltake Smart Fan 2, so with them on low its quiet. Turn the Thermaltake fans up to max and its really loud. I added the CFM of each fan and on max there is 404.4 CFM moving around.

Right now all I have is:

1 80mm PSU Exhaust
1 92mm PSU Exhaust
1 92mm Tornado (CPU)
2 80mm Case Exhuast
1 40mm Northbridge Fan
1 GPU Fan (50mm? 60?)

I plan on getting some LED case fans though, so that'll bump my case fans up to 4 (2 out, 2 in)

Oh yeah, forgot about my secondary system:
1 x 120mm intake, filtered, on fanbus
1 x 92mm - in PSU
4 x 80mm - 1 filtered intake (LED) over 2 hard drives in 5.25" bays - on fanbus, 1 rear exhaust (UV), 1 CPU (LED), 1 in PSU
1 x 60mm - top exhaust, on fanbus
2 x 50mm - one on videocard, one on chipset. Chipset fan is on fanbus
---------------------------------------
9 fans. 2 intake, 2 exhaust, 4 internal. This system uses a good Sunbeamtech fanbus.

And I'll throw in too, my network switch, a Dlink DSS8+. I wanted to make it fanless, but after having it open and finding out just how hot the components inside get, I figured that fewer fans would probably equal a fire, or a dead switch. There's something in there that resembles a voltage regulator. That thing was HOT. The main chip that, I guess does the processing, had a heatsink on it, but the application of thermal compound looks like a drunk cow did it. The layer at it's thickest was about 2mm, and some places had none at all - it was swirled and smutched all over the ~3cm x 3cm chip. I put a Globalwin FAC08 on the chip, with my usual combination of epoxy on the corners, with ASII in the middle. I was kind of limited in my cooling options, since I had only a 5V input to work with.
With just that fan though, and no exhaust, the entire switch heated up a good bit, so I had to splice the tiny exhaust fan (25mm square only) back in. So the switch now has 2 fans, one 40x40mm, and one 25x25mm. Now if only I could overclock it too. :D

i have too many:

7x 80mm
2x 120mm
1x 40mm

1 120 and 2 80s are almost always off and 4 80s are usually running at 7v

4 NMB 22db 80mm fans: 1 CPU, 1 filtered intake, 2 exhaust
2 adjustable 80mm fans in my Enermax PSU
Stock fan on my Ti4400

It's quiet and cool but I'll be going to watercooling soon.

only the cpu fan and whatever is on the psu. I dont care about having my side fan and 2 back fans on ;p there off off off off off off and yes my system is pretty muggy inside but it is not unstable at all.

ya duh the vid card had a fan on it already.

pics are old and the TWO holes back there are with fans.

7x80MM

2 in the back intake
1 on top exhaust
1 on the side exhaust
2 on the front intake over HD
1 on CPU

Any thoughts on whether this is the right setup? (the placement of intake vs exhaust).
