I currently work in one of those large corporations and we get 10 official vacation days, plus holidays, etc. I was interviewing with another company, and i asked them how many days a new employee gets a year, and i was shocked with their answer. They told me five days off. I have not been out in the market for jobs so now, i really wonder whats the normal time of vacation most companies give as i think 5 days is pure slavery!!!

New employees earn one day of vacation per month after the first two months. The next January, they get 10 days per calendar year.

I accrue a little under a day per month, with a cap of 15 days. After 5 years, it goes up to just a little over a day, with a cap of 25 I believe.

15 days vacation for all employees under 10 years. They changed it from 10 days last year. Anyone over 10 years is 20 days.

Why do most american companies give so few days off? In Europe they seem to really understand the concept of vacation days.

12 days off for holidays. First year you get 12 days vacation and 12 days sick leave. The sick leave never expires and there is no cap. If I stay here and retire all my accrued sick leave will be paid at the rate my salary will be when I retire. Too bad I like playing hookey too much.

15 day vacation, 9 rolling sick days (per 12 month period), 24 hours of "personal time," and all days the NYSE is closed.

10 Vacation + 5 Holidays + 6 personal days accrued per year. It takes 8 years of employment to get 15 vacation days, here!

God, I need to work where some of you people are employed. I get 5 holidays, 5 sick days, and 10 vacation days. I get comp. time I can use, but I have work over 45-hours a week to earn even that.

80 hours of vacation for new employess that has to be used in 8 hour blocks. On top of that we shut down from Christmas Eve until the working day after January 1. There's also the random American holidays.

It depresses me a bit after taking about ten weeks of vacation a year all through grad school...

the most you can have is 21 days after that you dont get anymore so you need to use them, but thats only if you have worked at the company for over like 7 years.

Now I get 15 days plus one floating holiday. New employees start out with 10. Not sure about sick days as I haven't used one in almost two years.
