Even the so called conservatives are actually collectivists. Most proclaimed conservatives don't seem to mind an income tax and the great lot of them want social security. Bush cuts income taxes a few percent and that's called conservatism, nevermind the tax code is enormous and processing it is a huge tax all in itself. Therefore, conservatism is a term that doesn't carry much weight, nor does liberalism. Conservatives and liberals are by and large collectivists, conservatives are just a shade lower on the collectivism scale.

eh, I wouldnt say that, most conservatives i know want a complete overhaul of the tax system, want to do away with social security [completely, for those that get screwed (inculding myself) we say "oh well"]. we want the govt to perform its duties as outlined in the constitution, verbatim, no more of this trend of taking the implied powers too far. leave the social engineering to society, the churches, and the corporations. not the govt.

That's sounding more like Libertarianism, not conservatism.![]()

Even though Bush is not as conservative as I would prefer, there are no other alternatives that more closely resemble my sensibilities than the Republican Party. The current presidential administration is but one facet of the party and by no means defines it.
It's not like I'm going to go liberal because Bush isn't conservative enough. Not going Libertarian either, I like the interstate highway system and do believe that while the scope of our Federal government does overreach what it was originally intended, real life in the modern world does necessitate a certain amount of Federal interventionalism. Libertarians are too far right where the role of the Federal government is concerned IMHO

Why do you stay, On AT not the conservative thinking, That is a core you can't leave and come back to, My mother always told me never stay anywhere you are not welcome and conservatives are sure not welcomed on AT, This is not a forum on politics&news, It is a place to bash Bush, Reps, conservatives, Christians and soldiers, You are right about Bush not being a true conservative but he is the best we have in the race I think
