I disagree, one of the most popular measurements in America is based on the metric system...haven't you ever heard of the 9mm? "yo yo yo homie get me mah nine so I can bust a cap in this fool"

Yes, but which is better: a 9mm or a 45 caliber?

Hint... a 45 was made to knock down a drug crazed Moro tribesman. The 9mm was made after the Germans made an attempt at 30 caliber pistol cartridge that couldnt put down a butterfly.

American units sucks when you have to do calculations.

A very simple one:

An engine use fuel at 1liter/hr and input energy of 15MJ/hr. It produces a shaft power of 1.0kW. What is the conversion effiiciency?

1.5x10^7/3600=4.167kW total input
1.0kW output.

1.0/4.167=23.9% efficiency.

Now what if these were all in American system?

These numbers are conparable quantity to the former question.

An engine use fuel at 0.25gallon/hr and input energy of 13700BTU/hr and shaft power of 1.34hp. Calculate the efficiency.

With metric, it's merely knowing there are 3600seconds in an hour and moving decimal points around, but you have to know the exact values in American system such as 16oz per lb, 12" per foot, 96" per yard... 5280' per mile.

How do you get 96" per yard? try 36"

Your right.. I'm tired..

1 yd=3ft=36". GRAR. This is why I frickin hate inches, because every unit has different multiplication factors.
