Atx has been the form factor for quite some time.. Why Buy a case when you can use the old one.

I used to when I was a poor college kid and such. Now, I choose to save myself the aggravation of tearing down a PC and putting new parts in. Plus, by not tearing down a PC, you still have a good machine to do any PC related things on. Of course, a modest laptop could probably do the same during the downtime.

I do understand where you're coming from though... especially if you spend a lot of money on cases. I usually splurge a bit as I really like large cases, because they're soooooooo much easier to work in, and it's a bit painful when it comes time for a new build!

well, I lie. I don't have a beige case from the 90s. They're both from around the year 2000.

I have an old, nondescript ATX case from the PIII era... still with a PIII.

The other is a beige Antec full tower. I don't remember which model. Didn't have a PSU (even if it came with one) because I got it second hand. Lots of 80mm fans. :p More recently, after PIII and P4, this case has had a Core2Quad with 7950GT (and later GT240).

For my other cases, I've used them for 2-3 builds each. My Antec 900 has seen 2 or 3 builds. My FT02 has seen 3 builds. My P182 saw 2 builds in its day.

I may have a lot of hardware...

The most consecutive builds I've done were in a Lian Li PC 60 from early 2000. I think I started with a 423 socket P4, then it lasted till about the Opteron 170 hay days. Since then I've bought 4 different cases:

-Lian Li PC A20 - currently not using

-Corsair 800D - currently using for gaming rig

-ABS Black Pearl (Lian Li re-badge) - currently using in main build

-Lian Li V1100 or 1000 it was an early model which i took one winter and made it into a custom house for a water-cooling loop - currently not using

Less than 1? My computer has gone from a HAF932, to a 800D, to a Caselabs M8. Video cards, cpu, mobo, PSU, and water cooling stuff all have changed but not at the same time.

So uhh.. I don't know how many builds I've had.

Never. When I build, everything is new. The old PC goes to a relative, usually being a massive upgrade for them.

I'm shocked to hear that. The FT02 hasn't been around all that long.

I think this thread needs clarification on what a "new build" is. My ft02 has seen one cpu/mobo replacement due to parts failure, but no total overhauls.

Gonna be honest, if the quality of the cabinets dont improve, theres little reason not to just keep useing the same one.

One Im useing atm is pretty decent, and will probably also be used next time, I get new MB/CPU ect.

I buy a new case each time usually and have built enclosures for my hardware in the past as well.

Got myself and LD PC V8 about a year and a bit ago, and about to update internals next week, think I'm gonna keep this case for a while given the price lol.

Originally Core i7 860 on an eVGA P55 FTW with GTX 260 (sold parts, kept case)
Next was a Celeron-based build for a low-powered storage server (sold parts, kept case).
Now it's an E3-1220, Supermicro X9SCM-F, and an LSI MegaRAID for a "low-powered" server compared to the dual E5520 server.

So... 3 actual builds. Come on. Look at my sig. Look at how many computers I own, and not to mention the 5-10 of them I've sold.

I have been using the same Lian Li PC-60 since early 2000's also... just finally upgraded and bought a Fractal Design Arc Midi... its a large improvement in a lot of respects, and unless something drastic changes, I foresee this case lasting for quite some time also... very nice case for the money!

My Define R3 houses a third build already and unless I strip a screw that holds something important I don't see why it couldn't be used for another two.

Just one rebuild so far. I am thinking of getting a Cosmos II case though for the better thermals and it looks really sweet. Just not ready to spend that much on a case at the moment. This works for now.

ummm... lulz..

i cant upgrade my case, unless i end up spending almost 1000 dollars on a newer case which serves the same function.

I run a MM, with a pedistool, so my case stands 3 feet tall alone.

I don't go by builds, but cases generally last me about 3 years, on average I'd say 2 builds.

When I bought my Corsair 800d I originally have an Evga Classified, i7-920 D0 cooled by a Corsair H100, 12GBs Corsair XMS DDR3, a Seasonic X750 and a GTX 480. Now I have a Asus P8Z68-V Pro, i5 2500K, 16GBs Corsair Vengeance, a Seasonic 1000w Platinium, SLI GTX 480's and a custom loop. I feel like the Corsair's good for a few more builds. Maybe a X79 build with SLI GTX 680's somewhere in the future. I was really hoping Corsair would come out with a new flagship case, The Corsair 900d.

video cards have gotten HUGE, honestly the current ones wont fit in most of my older cases, i have 2 lian li cases that you would be hard pressed to get a 7970 or 670 in

same with CPU coolers, at least one of the older lian li cases wont fit a larger tower cooler
