Sure, Earth self-corrects. But how long does it take to do that? Are we willing to wait 700 generations while the planet gets itself back to our comfort zone? We could dump all of our nuclear, biological, and chemical waste into the oceans, and the planet would eventually get itself back to some semblance of stability. How long might it take though? 100,000 years for the last of the low-level radioactive stuff to decay, and for the heavy metals to sink to the depths, or be otherwise removed from the ecosystem at large?

We seem to want the planet to be comfortable and predictable for every generation now. That's where things become dicey.

It won't be a doom and gloom thing like some (the true "eco-kooks," similar to those whom IGBT obsessively squawks about) are saying. It won't render the planet uninhabitable. Only something like an impact by an object the size of Mars, or perhaps the sun suddenly exploding, would be capable of doing that.
It won't kill billions of people. Some may die because of more severe, unpredictable weather patterns, which can destroy critical crops. Therein lies the problem which I alluded to earlier, being pushed out of our comfort zone of being able to predict weather patterns. Weather that is unexpected can be labeled as "severe." What qualifies as a severe drought in one place may simply qualify as normal in another. Why? Because it's unexpected.


Yes, maybe this is a temporary abnormality. Maybe it's part of a natural swing. Whatever is happening, it may well affect local weather patterns, which affects the people living there. As such, it's in our best interests to learn as much as possible about what really is going on.

I think a more looming problem is scarcity of necessary resources. As long as people continue to reproduce in desert areas where there's enough water, water is going to be a precious resource. Eventually, it's going to lead to some fighting.

Yes, quite possible. Ancient deposits of water won't last forever, since they are no longer replenished by the now-absent rainfall.
I seem to recall that in a southern city recently, I want to say it was in Alabama or Georgia, where they had to shut down a nuclear reactor because the nearby water source it required for cooling was getting dangerously low due to drought.
People complain about gas (and yet will still buy bottled water at an incredibly high price), but really, water is a hell of a lot more vital. The price of bottled water can be at least 1000% higher than that of tap water, and you have to burn gas in order to buy it. It comes packaged in another petroleum-dependent product: polyethylene. Finally, it was delivered to the store by, what else, a truck, burning diesel fuel.

Ummm ... there are over 6.7 Billion people on the planet and the world's average life expectancy is about 66 years. So I would say at least 6.7 Billion people will die within the next 66 years probably more.

So I have 10.4% more people dieing in 34% less time ... we are doomed.

I would even venture to guess that 9 or 10 billion will die in the hundred year period after this one.

Ever seen a volcano? One decent eruption from one of any of the 10,000 or so active ones on the planet releases more greenhouse gases than all of humanity does in a year. Also, it's not just CO2, which is really a pretty weak greenhouse gas.

Also, the average global temperature has FALLEN for the past decade.

Also, it is clear we are in an interglacial period of the CURRENT ICE AGE.

Also, people PROFIT from scaring you. It appears to be working too. A good cure for the heebie jeebies though, is to USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN, rather than resign yourself to the fact the planet is dying because some ditz on the news, who can't spell climate ,told you so.
