I don't know how you communicate with your wife, but mine loves calling her husband because he is funny as hell. Instead of ordering me to pick up the kids via a text, she calls me to tell me what I would get if I pick up the kids.

definitely a generational thing. your wife sexts me pics.

jay kay bro, don't get your wife's panties all up in a bunch.

yonder is a man with his finger on the proverbial pulse... lolol....

Well at least with the Apple watch he can share that pulse with others. Do that with a mechanical watch!

The only one that's gotten worked up in this thread is you, sport. If you want to purchase and enjoy an Ape watch that's certainly your choice and I applaud you for it but it's very clear that you know little about both the watch market and the fitness product market, so you'd do well to avoid making comparisons to those fields.

Really? Seems to me you're projecting. I'm perfectly happy to listen to a bunch of neckbeards pretend to know something about fashion, and lecture me about mechanical watches. And I will voice my opinion. That's how discussions work, get it?

Maybe it bothers you to hear my opinions, but I actually enjoy yours. They are quite funny. Lighten up.

If above is true representation of Apple Watch users, I would hate to be seen wearing one.....

I'm fairly confident that the vast majority of apple watch users are going to be people who disagree with you on a whole lot of stuff. You seem like a pretty disagreeable person.

Just in general, I think smart watches are going to raise hell with the watch market, it's another "Quartz moment" for them

Different situation.

The 'quartz moment' hit the cheapy, crap mechanical watches hard. Suddenly you could have a ridiculously accurate watch at the fraction of the price of an accurate mechanical one.

There isn't a cheap mechanical watch market to hit any more and the expensive mechanical watch market is a different market to the smartwatch market.

Now I'm not saying that smartwatches won't take off, they might well do very well. I just don't think that they'll have a massive impact on the watch market. I think that that's suffering more from watches going out of fashion in general.
If smartwatches do well it might very well give the traditional watch market a boost as people get back into the idea of wearing something on their wrist.

Same bit as the LCD stuff in the late 70's, no good reason for $$$$$ mechanical watches after that. But they will likely always have an audience. Not with me, but I don't have anything against people wanting to spend a ton of money for whatever turns them on really.

I think it could be good for the watch market if they play it right. Smartphones were already rough on the watch market, but if they can find a way to get on board, and release high quality smartwatches of their own, it could be what they need to save themselves.

I think people are taking my position wrong, and chaffing at my praise of the watch. Set my praise aside, and listen to my position; I think there is a huge market for the watch, and I think it is a transformative product that will lead to huge amounts of innovation in the tech world. I don't think it is another ipad, at all. I think it's something else entirely. I also think that Samsung actually has the potential to dominate this category in a way totally unseen before in a mobile product. Samsung has the SoC process tech, and display tech (they make THE BEST displays and the fastest processors) and they could fit more tech into a small package than anybody else, but it will take them time to get the interface right and I actually think Apple does a better job of hashing out stuff like interface (Force touch and the digital crown is the new multi-touch) so I think Apple will probably stay at the forefront for the next year or two. This is totally new technology and personally I'm exited to see what developers can do with it. There is more than just a stupid heart monitor, it has a bunch of accelerometers and a barometer along with the ability to locate itself using wifi networks even when away from the phone. With the phone, we could have real time weather reports with accuracy totally unseen before. Imagine what could be done with the data of all those millions of sensors?

Mechanical watches will stay around. They will still be a fashion accessory, but you won't see them on people under 20-25 today, or when they grow up. Maybe a few will have parents that are interested but the watch is now something totally new and different.

So the same as the sensors in my phone then?

I bought an Omega Planet Ocean. It's a cool smart watch that automatically gets powered by movement of your arms, body And it has a 60 hour power reserve.

I Doubt your phone has a barometer, the first iPhone with one is the iPhone 6. S6 has one I think. Are you suggesting that by carrying your phone in your bag, that the accelerometer tells you anything compared to an apple watch on your wrist?

The whole point is that it's attatched to you, it goes where you go in a way the phone never could.

My S5 has a barometer. Phones have had them for ages.

Depends what you're talking about specifically. You were talking about the barometer at the time, I can't see why there'd be a particular difference between the sensor being in your pocket or on your wrist.

The whole point is that it's attatched to you, it goes where you go in a way the phone never could.

If you want to do that getting something waterproof might serve you better.

Total paper weight.

Aluminum construction, no sapphire crystal, and not even water proof. There is nothing "sport" about the sport edition for an outrageous $400 paper weight that can't hold value.

HOLD ON!!!! Apple Watch is not even water proof??????

Yep. Hard to believe, but it is not waterproof. I went swimming last week, never took the Pebble off my arm, but the Apple Watch is the best smart watch money can buy according to reviews. This is yet another reason buying one of these as primarily a fitness tracking device is somewhat suspect.

Most Android Wear watches aren't waterproof, either. Take that G Watch R or Moto 360 swimming and you're going to kill it.

That doesn't mean Apple shouldn't try for true waterproofing, but it's disingenuous to attack Apple when the alternative you'd buy would probably have the same level of water resistance. Sport is a fine description -- you can still get it sweaty or run in the rain.
