What's the benefit of smart watch over a simple armband? You get more storage and you bring your phone with you in case of emergency. Would you go for a 1 hour jog on a city trail without a phone? What about a 4 hour bike ride?
I go for 1-2 hour runs all the time without my phone. There was a time not all that long ago when taking a phone with you wasn't even possible.
I've been saying for a few years now that Garmin really missed a big market by not including a couple of gigs of flash storage and bluetooth audio in their watches. I don't personally run with music anymore, but I know a lot of people do. I think that device would have been a huge seller. People don't need notifications when they are working out, but they sure would like the music.
But I agree with your point. If you need your phone anyhow to get GPS the watch is kind of an unneeded extra thing to carry around.
Wrong thread?
