Since I had to drop my car off back at the shop this morning my only method of transportation is my two feet. I live 5 miles from work so long do you think it will take me to walk it?

2 hours

Have you ever moved at a 6mph pace. I'd say at that point you've moved on to a jog, not a "brisk walk."
Plenty of times. In school we had to do the mile in under 10 minutes for the bi-yearly presidential fitness tests. Half of the people could walk it in under 10 minutes, including me. 25% could jog it in under 10 minutes. 25% couldn't complete the task in that time (if at all).

I personally was in track and cross country. I wasn't very good. But I'd run 5 miles in ~31 minutes. I've jogged/walked 8 miles in 59 minutes (we had to beat an hour so we all walked much of the way to be done in just under an hour).

To put things into perspective, Olympic walking velocities are about 9 miles/hour on a ~12 mile course. 9.3 miles per hour will win you an Olympic walking medal. Obviously, probably no one here is an Olympic walker. But 6 miles per hour isn't out of the question for walking speeds for a fit person.

Yeah, 6 miles an hour is possible, but these are the professional race walkers.

10 minute miles is a slowish jog, a normal walking pace is maybe 15 minute miles, so 15 x 5, is ummm.... 75 minutes

Which is why in my first post and calculation I used 5 mph for a FIT PERSON (1 mile in 12 minutes). Oh well, the flames won't stop no matter what number I used.

At a moderately brisk walk you'll do a mile in 15 minutes. I used to walk all the time and at a casually brisk pace cover a mile in 15 minutes easily. This is without breathing any heavier than normal or sweating at all. One trick is to lengthen your normal stride a little; at least that worked for me.

Yeah, I'd say 4mph. 4.5mph on a treadmill seems to be the break between a comfortable speedwalk and a jog. Definitely not 6 mph.

Not flaming, just questioning from my experience. I'm very open to the possibility that I'm wrong.
