stupid question but did it kick into PIO mode?

I can't switch it out of PIO mode.

Go under admin tools and delete the primary or secondary ide controller that it is using

Is that safe? Doesn't seem like it would be.

Works for my DVD burner which goes into pio mode roughly once a month

For DVD that doesn't seem so bad. With a HD I'm just worried something will get all messed up. Not that it really matters anyway cause this thing is being super crappy.

you said you had a backup. REstore it after it fixes it if necessary

Well I did it and it freaked out for a while. It took 4 reboots for it to get back to normal. Everytime it would reboot, drivers would try to install like crazy. They would just install over and over and over. It was funny to watch it. In any case, things are a little snapier. I re-ran the pcpitstop test. I'm up to a hauling 9mb/s. This HD rocks out with it's c@ck out.
