How long until my HD dies?

Ok, so my computer has started to all of the sudden get laggy. It seemed like the HD to me because whenever I'd do a file copy things would slow to a halt. So I went and ran a little uncached file test via pcpitstop.com. I come to find out that my uncached HD performance is a whopping 6% of the standard 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache drive. This baby is screaming out 2mb/s. So how long until the drive totally craps out?

Could the problem possibly be...

1) Spyware
2) Virus
3) Someone leeching from you sucking up your resources.

?

I wish it were one of those three. None of those are problems. Looks like I have to buy a new HD and reinstall everything. What crappy fun.

It's a maxtor. I have 1 maxtor die every year. It's like clock work. Needless to say I won't be buying a maxtor for a long time.
