How long does it take you to boot into Windows?

From when you hear the post "beep" to when your desktop appears.

Mine is 42 seconds and I'm wondering if that's about average.

a long time due to scsi 🙂 probably longer than yours. usually in the morning i just come in, hit the power button, do my morning stuff and then leave it on all day so i am not too worried about it.

my fastest booter is a p3 550MHz w/ 256MB of ram running my https site 😀

gotta love scsi - but when it is on it runs like a raped ape 😀

43 seconds now that some stupid security update made me click on the icon for my default login at the welcome screen instead of going straight to my desktop like I want 🙁.

45 seconds from hitting the power button, booting to the login screen, typing in my password, and loading into the desktop

Start -> Run -> control userpasswords2

Uncheck the box near the top.

Strange. I'm running Windows XP with every update available, and my system boots right up to the desktop without requiring any passwords or anything. Furthermore, that box you referenced IS checked. Hmmm...

Edited to add: 47 seconds from POST beep to desktop.

Last time I checked, it was well under 30 sec.
Of which, most of it was spent in the BIOS, and initializing the onboard (nvidia) RAID.
From the time it actually get's to load from the HD, it boots in under 10 seconds.
(The "scrolling" blue bar in the bottom just cycles 3 times, and it's on the login page. 🙂

Truth be said, I don't get to use that "quick boot" that often, last time I rebooted was over 2 months ago, due to driver updates.

Probably .NET install. You may need to uninstall .NET, reinstall it and then apply the patch. .NET 2.0 doesn't affect the original.

Mine takes about the time to walk to the kitchen for a glass of water.

Seriously I've never been fascinated or upset at the speed (or lack thereof) of booting up into Windows.

about 20-25 sec... 4gb iram x2 raid 0.. i have almost everything disable out of my start up also.. no need for useless junk

about 45 seconds. I have the both the floppy and CD rom as first boot devices, that takes a few extra seconds. I have a PCI SATA RAID controller, adds a few more seconds. sounds like your is about average!

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaat's what it must have been. Sounds about right. I had to install .NET Framework 1.1 and its patch instead of 2.0 otherwise BF2CC doesn't work properly. *grumble mumble*

I'm at work now but I'll try what was suggested earlier and failing that, reinstall and repatch the .NEFF Framework.

Interesting, I didn't know you could pass options to "control" when running it through Run, I usually just go straight to the control panel extension (in this case Start -> Run: nusrmgr.cpl).

My system takes about 1min to fully be able to use XP. I have 5 HDs and NAV corp and other stuff running, liveupdate is probably my culprit but better wait longer and be safe than to not be, IMO.

If you only have one user account with no password (and the default administrator account) you'll boot straight to desktop. If you want to test it add another user account and it'll take you to the log in screen.

I've never timed mine. The actual booting seems fairly fast but the bios boot seems slow even. There's a big delay after at the end of the IRQ screen.

It really depends on many factors - on a LAN? Loading SATA/RAID drivers? External devices such as scanner, printer, readers, USB hub, external drive, USB, Firewire, and then what kind of AV, anti-spyware, firewall, etc., etc.? A naked XP system should be about 30 seconds. For everything else, add some time.

yep, the less processes running the faster the boot. I have another system which is roughly have as powerful as my main system and I only have XP pro SP2 and soundcard drivers on it. Its not connected to my network and has firewall et...al turned off and is only used for gaming and music mixing and it boots from start to full XP access in 20 secs. No usb, no diskette. KB and mouse are PS/2 and works great.

That's what mine is, a single passwordless account that it is set to log into by default but it still asks me to select the account and log in just by clicking the little picture at the welcome screen. There's not even a password field.

Ahh, that's my situation exactly. I appreciate the reply.

The difference is that you must have the .NET framework installed. I should add that I accidentally installed .NET at one point, and was shocked at boot-up to see the Welcome Screen requiring that I click my name to continue on to the desktop. After I removed .NET, the boot process returned to normal.

You don't have to remove .NET totally, you can just remove the .NET user that is created when .NET is installed.
