Usually a few to several hours.

If you're sick less than hour after eating something, it's more than likely not food poisoning.

But...I'm not a Dr. ;)

Actually a few causative agents can cause vomitting and diarrhea within 15 minutes of ingestion.

I'm sure you're right, but, a question then. Aren't the most common from tainted or improperly cooked beef, chicken, pork, etc.? And doesn't that usually take a few hours before the symptoms set in?

As for vomiting 15 min. after eating something, I think it's common sense to be calling a dr. ASAP!

Most common would probably be from poor hygiene. The causative agents related to bad hygiene of the employees have onset times of anywhere from 15 minutes to about 24 hours. On average, though, onset times are probably anywhere from 8-24 hours.

The worst run-in with food poisoning I have had was caused by Pizza Hut. I ended up getting Salmonella and was sick for 2.5 weeks.

depends on the bacteria/virus injested. also...what types of pain are you feeling? certain bacteria/virus have symptoms that are easly distinguishable. hmmmm...just let its do its course and keep yourself hydrated.

I ate some spaghetti and some chicken cutlet last night. I have a good feeling the chicken cutlet did me in.

I was fine all last night until this morning. I woke up like I had to use the restroom. I went in there and didn't come out for a long time. I am experiencing diarheaa? When I burp I taste the food like I just ate it and it is nasty, nasty, nasty.

I do have small fits of cramps.

Oh man this is so not good.

Drink a lot of water. You want to avoid dehydration.

Any idea on how long I'll be like this? I've already probably pooped out more than half the water that was in me.

Although I might have been guilty of erroneous post hoc ergo propter hoc logic, I became extremely ill a few hours after eating some bbq. I threw up more violently than I have ever in my life, and it lasted for a few days. I lost about 15 pounds as a result. I would throw my guts up, feel fine for about 30 minutes, and then go again. Miserable!

And yes, be sure to drink lots of fluids.

Really depends on what you came down with.

Stomach virus is currently rampaging through Baton Rouge, LA. Got it last week from my kid who got it from school............

The night before I woke puking and diarrheaing I ate a huge dinner of Kielbasa, tomatoes, potatoes, and drank about 4 glasses of red wine. Lets just say the next day I vowed to never drink red wine again. Some stomach virus sufferers dont get the puking part just the pooping part.:D

I honestly don't think it's the stomach virus as I do not have any other symptoms like fever, chills, etc. I am only having upset stomach and violent spells of diarrhea. I just made myself regurgitate. I feel semi-ok now but damn my stomach still feels kinda funny. It says that after I get out all the bacteria infected food I should start to feel better. Hope that is soon.

It was the cheese from Ponderosa that did my sister and I in about 7 years ago. I don't think I have ever puked so much in one weekend. I was on vacation too....

But I am still willing to eat there. You can get food poisoning anywhere, so I don't let past experiences worry me too much.

Are you sure it's food poisoning? Could it be Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
