How long do NHL hockey games normally last?

My fiance won tickets to go see the Carolina Hurricanes tonight with her co-workers. How long do I have to suffer through this game?

It's probably the one major sport that I know absolutely NOTHING about.

You're in for a treat, hockey is best enjoyed live at the rink.

If it's televised probably around 2.5 - 3 hours.

Oh no you di-int :Q

That's sacrilege here in NC 🙂 College Basketball kicks Hockey ass around here -- which reminds me, why the fuck do we even have a NHL hockey team? It just doesn't compute.

No kidding, terrible fans. Move all those southern teams up here to Canada, we'll take em!

Watch that Bayda turkey, still owes me $50 from poker.

I've never cared for basketball in my life. Not even now, when I'm a student at Ohio State, do I even care to follow our basketball team. Basketball is a sport I couldn't care less about, unless of course it was played with human heads instead of basketballs, but we're civilized these days, and heads don't bounce... or do they?

But yeah, basketball is torture for me. I don't follow sports in general usually, but I'll enjoy watching most live.
Hockey is awesome live.

what everyone else said .. about 3 hours. 3 periods of 20 minutes each with a 15 minute intermission between them where they clean the ice and do stupid promotional stuff. the clock stops every time the whistle blows.

hockey might be the greatest sport ever to watch live. it's very fast paced with lots of action. lots of fun, even if you don't like it on TV.

Well, we're heading out now -- I can't remember if the RBC has WiFi or not (I'm usually pretty into the NC State BB games when I'm there, so I never bothered checking before), but hopefully they do if I get too bored during the intermissions 🙂

Because the Hartford Whalers' jerseys were too cool for the rest of the league. That or to punish Rod Brind'Amour.

OK, end of the first period here. I just don't get it. I don't get the strategy involved -- it just seems so random. Eh, at least the tickets were free and there's free wifi

The puck goes into the other team's net. 😉

Well duh 😉, the offense/defense structure just seems to have no rhyme or reason

Hockey player's can't stop or turn on a dime like in football or basketball due to ice 😉.

Lucky you.

I can't really afford to go to games here.

Well, i could, but only rarely.

It's awesomeness live though. 🙂

It'll be about 2.5 hours unless they go to overtime or a shootout, then expect another 20-30 mins.

There is definitely strategy and structure to what they do. I've watched hockey for years now and tried to join a beginner adult league over here and let me tell you, shit is CONFUSING.

I don't understand how you can be a fan of other sports and not understand hockey. It's very similar rule-wise to soccer and lacrosse, but more intense.

Soccer is another one that I just won't watch. However, I love basketball, football, baseball, golf, track and field, swimming.

Hockey just isn't an traditional American-esque sport IMHO
