How long do monitors last?

I'm just trying to get an idea when this 17 inch of mine will die out.... its a crap monitor with analog connections and not even flat on the screen. I hope to buy an LCD in 1 or 2 years...

Monitors can last years and years. THere are monitors from the 70's and 80's still working. Are you hoping it dies so that you can convince someone in your house it's time for a new one? lol

A lot depends on how it's used and under what conditions. Superhigh refresh rates lower the life, lots of repititions of turning it on and off hurt too. Likely the worst thing you can do is keep it poorly ventilated. If you have in stuck in the corner cubby of a typical computer desk where it's not getting good airflow from any side will really shorten the life.

I have a 15" Pixie monitor that has been around for a good 7 years.

I have a 17" Shamrock monitor that has been around for 5 years.

I have a 19" KDS monitor that has been around for 3 years.

I have a 19" Cornerstone monitor that has been around for 1 year.

Had an old 15" that lasted oh.. good 5-6 years? Now a friend has it, and its still doin great

Have had my 19" for almost ayear now.. doin great! 🙂

I have a NEC Diamondtron that is just over 3 yrs old and it is already pulsating on the right side. :| Looks like the credit card bill is going to keep on growing.

My 14 inch DELL 14XE is still kicking (circa 1996).

I still use my Commodore monitor (1702) circa 1983.

My main monitor is a '99, and I have a monitor that can't do the resolution & refresh rates I need, but it's a '95 that works fine.

so what do people do when they got spare monitors? I got a 14" still good at home, 15" still good, 17" slight bluish tint 🙁, and a 19" sony still very good that I could probably only sell local since shipping will kill.

Want to get a dell 18" lcd 🙂

somehow or other, I seem to manage to kill 'em all in just about 3 years. sometimes I'm lucky and it's just under, so they replace 'em. sometimes I'm not.

daughter's boyfriend came up with a theory a couple weeks ago, wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the refrigerator is on the other side of the wall from my monitor..

I have 4 15" ones older than the hills, probably circa 1993 and they all work. My parents main monitor is a Gateway 17" (rebadged MAG) from circa 1996 and it still works and it's used daily.

i have a dell 17" that i got at some auction site in '98, prolly a year or two old when i got it, not the first problem with it though

Still running a 15" Optiquest v55 crt monitor here... I got it for free, it needed a repair - I got it fixed for like 20 bucks and it's been working perfectly ever since.

In a way, yes, but not really. I want to get an LCD in the next 1 - 3 years.
