As far as federal loans, it's completely true.

As far as any other loans, they aren't getting any of those either without the parent's cosigning. And I'm not about to cosign. I love my future kids, but I'm not going to be held responsible if they get $150k in loans for a liberal arts degree.

They are 100% fucked until the age of 26 when they are considered "independent" for the federal loans.

They will be fucked regardless of the stupid laws or requirements government forces down our throats.

Heck even if they go to college free of charge they will be fucked the way our government is spending THEIR money that they don't even have yet.

:)

I do agree with this.

But getting paid OT did ease the pain tremendously when the weekly paycheck came out to $5k~.

Damn over 20k per month. That was a pretty penny.

yeah that's pretty motivating. I'd fuck my body over for that.

Yea but it REALLY wore me down.

Not just a "this really sucks, but I get some money." kind of exhaustion.

It was more like, my soul and bones are tired. Wake up next day, what's the next surprise? Days don't matter anymore- Saturday or Sunday. We did 9 days straight + 1 day off cycling.

Wake up, take the dog out, go to work. Come home, take the dog out, go to sleep... work again in 8.5 hours. Of course this client implementation is always in late winter, so it's dark when I go to work, dark when I go home.

It was crushing my human essence. I 'only' did this 5K weekly pull for couple months.

Of course the industry was healthcare, so everyone's ALWAYS on thin ice... members not getting proper treatment/denied cancer drugs due to some crappy code somewhere....

HIPPA/compliance liability + some people mentally breaking down, etc.

It wans't just endless hours + medium/hard work. It was endless hours + intense stress. I think my hairline receded noticeably during this 18 month stint.

Crazy.

Can I do it again? MAYBE. But definitely not when I'm 5 to 10 years older. I'm not young anymore.

And people out there make far more f-ton of money with less stress & effort.

The part that worries me about this, Ns1, is that I think it'd be a lot more manageable if you were doing 80 hours at one job instead of at two. Two jobs and sets of people demanding things from you... that's going to be rough.

I guess I'll find out soon. One job is taxing physically and the other is taxing mentally. One thing is for certain - I'm scheduling one entire 3 day weekend every month so I can go to therapist/chiropractor/massage/bar/sleep. In that order.

So I've been doing 60-80 hours a week for the past 2 months with no end in sight. Overall it's not bad but finding free time to do ANYTHING is terrible. I pretty much have a single 5 hour window on Friday nights for anything social.

But at least the money is helping a lot ^_^

I feel ya brotha, I started 7 days per week 3 months ago, ramped up to 110+ per week for about 5 weeks, been back down to 80s for a month. I actually worked 83 hours straight to get the project open for june 26th. I thought I would die. Plus side, I lost 29.4 pounds from the physical work and living on monster energy drinks.

It's one thing to do it on a temp basis due to some kind of circumstance but all the time, it makes life completely meaningless. So you make more money, but you don't have time to actually use it for anything because you're either at work, or sleeping.

Sounds super healthy

Good luck to you two. I don't miss those days of mine but still enjoy the results of my labors

I too am working two jobs right now. 9-5 on my day job and I just started a photography business that sucks up another 5 - 6 hrs a day. It has pretty much become my 2nd job

I suppose it depends on what you're used to and how invested you are in your work. Someone who's running their own business doing something they're passionate about might do it indefinitely. Someone who's hand mixing mortar for a masonry company might not make it through the summer.

Jesus, Ns1. You mind if I ask what your job is?

I can't say I've worked 80 hour weeks before, but I've done a lot of OT to complete projects. A couple times it was getting to work at 8 am and not leaving until midnight or later. It wasn't 80 hour weeks, but even doing 60+ hour weeks for me was enough to put me in a terrible mood (software development). I refuse to do that on anything resembling a consistent basis. I'd much rather take a job that pays less.

so Ns1, i missed this thread earlier. Why do you have to work 2 jobs?

I need money to pay for stuff and I'm salaried with no OT potential. Thus, I need a side gig to make more money.

For the most part, I like what I do at both jobs. I just don't have time for shit anymore =X

The United States Army would like to have a talk with you... :D

While deployed I woke up at 0500 every morning and worked until 2100 each night for six months straight. Days of the week no longer mattered in that environment beyond knowing that the Afghan Army's weekend started on our Friday.

Now, I made pretty good money because I'm an officer, but I realized that many of the lower enlisted Soldiers had pretty shitty lives pulling down about $55k per year or so, even WITH the other entitlements (hazardous duty pay, etc.). Granted, living expenses were nothing at that point, you have no choice but to eat what's available.
