I have debated with Muslim friends about evolution and atheism. There never was any screaming or anger. It was purely rational and calm discussion. Now, I understand that American Muslims are generally among the most highly educated people in the world, but, we learned a little bit about each other and reached a friendly stalemate.

So therefore the OP's question is very valid. If enough people switch over, then the actual leadership positions might change to those less friendly to muslim immigration. That will constitute a 'backlash'
