How long before McCainiacs and Obamaphiles get along again?

I along with many others have family members and friends who voted for McCain, while I voted for Obama. Are some of these McCain supporters going to "get over it"? Will the topic of politics be off limits until 2012?

I am talking about friends and family, not people we hate on this forum or in the office.

Was politics off limits for the previous 8 years?

I'm not smug about Obama winning, so I won't have any problem talking with co-workers who are McCain fans. If they're so bitter that they can't hold a conversation even when i'm being conciliatory, then there weren't a person I ever discussed politics with anyway.

I don't think it's a problem and believe that most have gotten over it...I haven't seen any wailing and gnashing of teeth from McCain supporters but the Obama folks are walking on air. I think the McCain supporters have accepted the results and are hoping for the best.

To my knowledge, all of my family voted for Obama, and I know of no friends that voted for McCain.

I would hope friends and family members are still talking to each other even though they voted differently. Why would you assume they arent already? Even if you have a totally different view of the world and want it to go a completely different direction, friends are still friends, and family is still family.

My grandmother is a psycho religious freak, and she actually thinks Obama is the antichrist (for real, she does)... I , and pretty much everyone else in the family, think she is an idiot, and a nutcase... But we still love her. =)

One of my roomates voted for mccain.

I didn't like him very much before I knew this, and probably won't like him much after.

Reasons for not liking him aren't political at all, he knows very little about what the GOP stands for, and is a generally self absorbed dick. I like republicans here much better as they can at least provide interesting arguments.

Before anyone asks, I live with him because he's a responsible roommate for the most part, only one of several people I share an apt. with, and good roommates are hard to come by.

Well I think a lot of people can agree that many people weren't proud/happy to have voted for Bush.

As with the 2 elections prior to this one, it will fade quickly for the majority of people. Some crazies will hold on to it years later (we still have people bitching saying Bush didn't win in '04, shut up its done and over you lost get over it), but most will move on quickly (if they haven't already).

I was for McCain, but as soon as he lost I didn't care anymore. It doesn't matter. Obama won, and now it's time to see what he does with his presidency. I will love to debate policy about it, but regardless McCain lost Obama won.

I will talk to anybody that is willing to have an intelligent rational conversation about the topic.

That?s how it is for some of my family in FL, I can't talk politics with them. Last time my sister and I talked, she referred to Obama as a would-be saboteur. This was yesterday.

If you were called a racist for the sole reason of voting for McCain, the person that called you a racist was an idiot, plain and simple.

I had to tell my grandma to grow up when she said "He's not my president", and both her and my uncle said that they were moving out of the US. I said "Good! Let me help you pack, I'm still waiting on those idiots that said they were leaving in '04. The sooner the better, I'll even buy your plane ticket." They didn't take me up on the offer, I wonder why :roll:

I'm getting along just fine with everyone actually. We'd have daily debates and hundreds of emails a day about the election. I'm a R and I voted McCain.

I do have to quesion if you're paranoid though. What I see on this website are a couple of smug people, with the rest being reasonable people that only attack when presented with idiocy.

I'm still a little contemptuous of my dad for voting for Obama in the primaries over Hillary, but by and large, I don't really talk about politics IRL except with my one friend who works in DC and we talk more about how the sausage gets made than anything else.

I disagree with the amount of smug people compared to the reasonable ones. Perhaps the smug are just the ultra vocal minority?
