I've seen some interesting things on the show before, but I will never, ever, eat a hot dog again after watching that episode. Disgusting.

How It's Made is usually kind of dry and boring, but now i'm curious. i'll have to watch this after i get back from dinner.

That plant makes 2.5million hot dogs per day? How are that many eaten? I hardly ever eat hot dogs.. I can't imagine many people including them in their regular diet.

I don't eat hot dogs, but after watching that I was somewhat surprised that they're better than I thought. I figured there'd be organ meat or something.

Did they mention what plant they were at?

That mechanically separated chicken is some nasty stuff.

And did you know they use fertilizer, aka shit, to grow fruits and vegetables? Are you gotta stop eating those too?

I love hot dog. I eat it at least once if not more times a week. Costco Polish sausage FTW!

Just saw that it was the John Morrell plant. I've toured a facility that produces roughly the same amount as the plant featured in that episode.

I'll never forget the trip I was on in 6th grade to a meat plant in Buffalo, NY. We had to wear special little booty things over our shoes to help keep the floors clean. I watched as they swept up scraps on the floor and dumped them right into the vat for hot dogs. I got to see "hot dogs" when it was just a gross, disgusting puree, before it was even in the casings. That was 1978? I think it was about 10 years before I ate another hot dog. And, probably 20 years before I touched bologna again.

I just came from the maggot thread. I found the maggots on the guy's leg to be less gross than the process of making bologna I saw in 1978.

Hot Dogs.

Ingredients: Miscellaneous parts from miscellaneous animals.

Deeeeeelicious!

Kind of makes you wonder what "animal by-products" go into pet food. If the scraps can go into hot dogs, what exactly is left? Hooves, noses, and fur?

Didn't bother me at all, I was expecting something nasty. Actually made me hungry for hot dogs.

Trimmings are the same meat you'd see going into hamburgers or any other types of sausage. In butcher parlance, it's the leftover bits after you cut up the steaks, filets, and roasts off the primals. Those are only unsaleable because of their small sizes, not because they're nasty bits.

This I don't doubt.
