How is your hard drive set up?

How many drives, how many partitions, main folders for organization etc?

Me:

80 gig WD 800JB in 2 partitions

C: 25 gigs for windows and installations
D: the balance for data. Folders are:

/ftp for ftp stuff
/downloads is my default download directory
/music is obvious

That's it for now. I'm gonna put linux on here again soon, so that'll eat some space and give me 2 more partitions...

80 gb 2 partitions

all apps on c: 20gb

d: downloads/multimedia stuff

and my downloads are put in folders based on which app im using.. grokster/winmx/bearshare, etc..

once i get my 80gb seagate barracuda rma'd.. considering doing raid 1 mirroring.

40 GB 7200 Maxtor

C: 2.5 GB for Windows/essential utilities/programs
D: 700 MB for swap file, although I don't use it though
E: 40 GB - 2.5 GB - 700 MB - whatever is left after FDISK/format for MP3s, media (lotsa Friends episodes), games, regular programs, etc

2 X 60 g, 4 partitions

1st partition: windows + apps
2nd partition: mp3s + saved files
3rd partition: anime
4th partition: anime

2 hard drives. 20 GB and 40 GB. The 20 is for Windows and all other installed programs. The 40 is for data and nothing else.

1 40GB Maxtor 7200RPM drive
1 17GB Quantum KA + 7200RPM drive

40GB - Split to C and D drive (C= 10GB for Windows only, nothing else is installed, and D is for storage... porn and other stuff)
17GB - Only one partition taking up the whole drive. This is where all my programs/games are installed. None is installed on C drive. This way, I can just reinstall windows without worring about loosing everything.

Seagate BIV 40GB in three partitions... c: partition (10 gigs), e: partition (25 gigs), and h: partition (~4 gigs... barebones image of my OS and apps)

IBM 60GXP 60GB in one partition, for my music and personal files.

kind of off topic.....but did anyone see the terrabyte system on the screen savers. I thought it was very impractical.

2x40 raid-0

2.5 winxp
5.5 scratch/temp/cdburn temp
8 games
8 games (again)
8 prog installs
8 server files
8 download temp/media
8 mp3 1
8 mp3 2
8 personal documents/work/data
8 fat32 backup of data/drivers

why the "8"? long time ago read that win98 worked best in 8GB and below partitions/drives before it would misbehave. guess its just habit, but i do notice that 8gb fits EXACTLY what i need for the most part.

two 20 gig's on a RAID 0 partitioned in half with 98SE on one and XP Pro on the other
Two 15 gig's on a RAID 0 with 2000 Pro
one 75 gig for storage. MP3's, movies, install apps, etc.....

2xMaxtor 7200 40Gb, IDE raid 1

Windows 2k

C: drive - everything.

I've tried doing the whole partitioning thing with data/programs + windows on different partitions, but when I had to reinstall windows I still had to reinstall all my apps because all the registry settings were lost. Then I tried data/programs/windows on diff partitions, same thing. Then I tried everything on the same drive and my hard drive crashed, so I lost everything and now I use raid 1.

1x 120GB WD1200JBB

C: Windows / Apps, 20GB
D: Games, 15GB
E: Data, 80GB
- Agent (DB's can get pretty big, gave it its own folder)
- Apps (archived)
- Games (archived)
- AV (music + movies)
- My Documents
- Temp (all my new DLs go here)
F: System Files, 2GB

1x30gig and 1x80gig.

5GB (win2k), 5GB (linux), 5GB (apps), 30GB (data), 30GB (data2). There's still space left unformated.

Sorry, but asking me to reveal one of my deepest secrets, such as, "How is your hard drive set up?", is ALMOST akin to asking if you can see my wife's panties. 😀

80GB Maxtor D740X Silent, one partition: Win + progs, bandstuff (guitar & drum tracks..), downloads and divx

40GB Maxtor DiamondMax 60+, one partition: Mp3
