How is it possible that 99% of new music can suck so bad?

Are there seriously no more talented musicians or have the music companies reached their goal of polluting all music?

I blame the record execs. They sign these talentless hacks. The American public will largly gobble up whatever music is given to them so the blame falls on the record industy.

I think with the whole Ashlee Simpson thing people are starting to get sick of the crap they are fed. I can only dream of another 60-70s type music revolution.

How it is possible that you have made it this far in life without the ability to spell?

because they are making money with it... once people stop paying it will stop... Same theory i have with movies, if people stop going to see crap movies, crap movies will no longer be in production... very simple

I'd take another early 90's type of cleansing of the airwaves.

99% of new music has ALWAYS sucked. Even when I was a kid (25-30 odd years ago)

The problem is the sucky stuff is quickly forgotten and everyone pines away for the good old days.

its all been done before, so theres no originality. just the same old tired sounds and songs being ripped off from those that came before. but with each generation, you have new listeners who havent heard it before, so there is always a fresh market for the record companies and "artists" to sell crap to.

LOL, so quicky they forget Disco and Country Music. I think a more apt discription would be that there is a lack of creativity in todays music.

You are really saying "I do not like 99% of the new music". You may not like mainstream music but obviously a lot of people do.

What kind of music do you like?

There are so many kinds of music these days you can get into. Search the net or file sharing programs and try out a completely new style of music and you'll get excited about the scene again. Try "electro" for example.

I'm all about the rock. Not this punk-pop or pop-rock sh!t that's all over the place.

Where is this music that is sucking? You aren't listening to the radio are you? If you're not trying new groups and seeing live performances by small bands in your local area then you've never really been a music fan and your feelings are what you'd expect when the radio style changes. Go out tonight and check out a band playing something you might be into, your five dollar cover will probably revive your interest in music.

I'll admit that I'm not that familiar with it but the stuff I have heard sounds like one big loop.

I get excited when I see a band make something that simply took a little thought and imagination, regardless of how bad the song sucks.
A couple songs that stick out are "I believe" (the fruit screeching, can't remember the band), "Hey,Ya", and "Are you gonna be my girl".
All three bands show that they have actually studied music and have influences beyond crack and Tupac.
There are still journeymen/craftsmen out there that are serious about their music and understanding what's happened before them. Every now and then one of them sticks their neck out with some inspired art, whether it sucks or not.
It's a shame that most of it is record execs pumping out the Simpsons and New Kids for profit.

Music taste is cultural. People tend to like only what they were listening to when they were in teenagers. I started listening mostly to Jazz in college but I still like the stuff I grew up with.

I have read reviews of the Beatles when they first hit the US. The established critics thought they sucked and were too simplistic.
