How illegal would it be to fax 100% black pages?

You know when you get a ton of spam from your fax machine? How illegal would it be to send 20 or so pages of 100% covered black ink (or just black paper) in return to waste their ink?

Are you sure that the number they faxed from will actually receive a fax? Are you sure you have the correct number that the fax came from?

AFAIK, it's not illegal to send a fax for non-commercial purposes.

On one of the anarchist cookbook-type sites I saw a prank where you fax a black piece of construction paper to your target, as it goes through, tape the ends together so it is infinite. Machine on the other end will run out of toner if not stopped. :p

This. Fax spammers are probably smart enough not to automatically print every fax they receive. Of course, not everyone else falls into that category.

My fax machine doesn't even have ink in it. It just emails me a PDF of whatever we receive.

Yea they probably don't print out faxes they receive, they are probably blocked always so they have the outbound free to send.

You can maybe do something that keeps their line open so it is unable to send future faxes though.

Chances are, it's a faxing computer system. They scan it once, and send it to 1000s of people automatically. Most likely won't print what you send, so you'll just be wasting your own time.

Yeah, my fax machine has pc to fax software as well.

And most fax spammers spam from pc's. They basically send it like email in batches.

Even if it was a traditional business fax machine, it'd probably cost you more to send 10 black pages than it'd cost them to print 10 blank pages.

People still fax machines? Lol.

If you have any kind of chronic illness that involves multiple doctors/clinics, or any kind of legal issues, you'll probably buy one too.

For whatever reasons, scanning/emailing isn't considered "legit." (And as simple as it is, the average cat lady / medical receptionist lacks even that basic level of technical savvy.)

until recently, my wife used to manage a doctors office. She said it was insane how many insurance companies only know how to recieve claims via a fax. The federal mandate to move to 100% digital filing of med claims will get pushed back another two dozen times, you can bet on that.

Fax machines are often the only way to transmit an acceptable copy of a document.

Plus, it's pretty much secure during transmission. Someone would have to tap into your phone line.

We cannot do without a fax machine yet.
