How illegal is this?

I have a friend who has seriously gotten out of hand with doing illegal sh!t. A lot of my friends joke he's going to own a pawn shop later in life because he is constantly buying and selling sh!t (his family is rich--he drives an Infinity--so he buys a lot of computer parts).

He will use something for a few weeks, sell it, and buy something new. The kid is a freak.

A few summers ago he bought a modded Xbox with 13 burned games of Ebay. Since then, he has gotten a new mod chip (with a switch, so he can play on live), and has maybe 40+ burned games (none of which he has the original of). Also, he has burned many copies of Windows XP and Office and has given them (or sold them) to kids at our school with working CD keys.

He also burns DVDs and sells them to kids at our school

He recently bought a nice $500 digital camera, and was talking to me today. He dropped it and the battery case is fcuked. He said as soon as newegg starts selling them, he's going to buy one, then immediately file for an RMA, but RMA his old one so he can have two new ones (and probably sell one on Ebay).

The kid seriously needs to stop. This habit will definitely stay with him when he goes to college, and later in life it could get much worse.

How illegal is all this stuff he is doing? He's a pretty good friend, so I don't want to see anything bad happen to him, but this is getting way outta hand.

some things are best left untouched. Let the kid deal with his own destiny.

Start learning how to make care packages. He'll appreciate those when he's behind bars...someday. :D

I wanna see this asshat go down in the news.

I mean uh...not illegal! Just have him give the local cops copies of everything. You can have him mail me some, too!

Make sure to be very specific, with names, locations, etc...this will help them to determine EXACTLY how illegal these activities are.

Once he realizes it's time to do his taxes he may cut back. You can hide a lot of stuff, but unless you own a bunch of shell companies and swiss bank accounts you can't hide your income -- or your lifestyle -- from the IRS.

I had a friend who make Fake IDs. He was damn good at it and running quite a brisk business until tax time came around. Then he realized he had $2000 of unreportable income that month that he needed to hide. So he sunk it into a car stereo. After that he stopped making IDs.

I used to make fake IDs. It's fun. Then I realized that I was a complete moron. I still like to fool around with IDs, but the material does not leave my PC and it's just for fun. :)

Call the MPAA on him.
Seconded. The modded Xbox and warez'd games I could understand, but selling someone else's stuff, and pulling RMA switcheroos are big no-nos. In terms of illegality even, the warez is a civil offense, the RMA is criminal fraud, and I'm pretty sure the selling is criminal, but I don't know the exact crime category.

Pfft, you don't need a slingshot. Just sneak up on him & stick your finger in there. That'll show him.
