How hot is too hot for 1.6a P4 at 2.5

Hello,

I have a 1.6a at 2.5 running at 1.65v with stock HSF on an ABIT TH7II (old 850chipset)

Everything works out great until I play warcraft III, it freezes a lot, and when I check the temp. after rebooting, its roughtly at 60c. Is this too hot?.. will this cause the CPU to throttle down which is causing my computer to freeze? WarIII doesn't freeze all the time, but when ever it does, my CPU is at roughly 60c's.

So some suggestions on how to fix this would be great. I'm thinking about getting a better HSF (can someone point out some trusty sites where I can purchase one)

I have 4 case fans in the PC now (3blowing in and 1 on top of the CPU blowing out) The case temp during the afternoon is roughtly 40-45c's and 35-40c's during the evening.

any help is appreciated

SVCompuCycle
Get the Swiftech MCX-4000 - the best, but pricey
don't know if they have the alpha 8945 - up there too...a bit cheaper
TT volcano 7+, very good also

Thanks for the reply SupermanCK, but wow, didn't know they were that much money. Are there other "good" HSF's or basically thats it?

60'c is kinda high, Im about 42-45'c max after Prime95 overnight, I use an Alpha 8942, maybe the temp is the problem, try a new cooler and fax (cant hurt!)

copper is a better conductor...it can dissipate heat faster than al...
yes...get AS3...apply a thin layer...and then try your luck again...if you want instruction on how to apply AS3...go to their website...
good choice you got the TT 7+...that's what i have...but now i want the swiftech MCX-4000....

The Thermalright AX-478 is also a good heatsink from what I've read, thats the one I bought from SVC for $25. They seem to take an unusually long time with my order which I sent last monday, waited and waited, and called them on friday, said it was still in process but thats a whole different matter.....
