How good do you *think* your driving skills are?

I'm good, I think. I take corners too fast. Otherwise, my shifts are smooth, I pay attention, and I don't screw around with stuff while I'm driving.

Oh, and I wear my seatbelt.

the question is, how do YOU stand against all others? 😉

Taking corners too fast is a good thing! I hate people that corner slow! I especially hate people that slow down when the freeway curves.

awesome !!! i always speed up on freeway curves, it feels awesome! 😀

Your skills are dependent on where and what you are driving. You also have to define in what sense we are ranking skill. You could get points for safety, defensive skill, or slalom abilities, etc.

Pretty good I think...

My father was owner and driver for a professional race team for 15 years... He still today builds and designs race cars for many different conditions - and he taught me how to drive... in a parking lot, normal highway, and even on a test track...

I did Drivers ED while in High school, and that summer I attended a driving school about 5 hours away from home for 3 weeks...

I think I've got above average driving skills. 🙂

BUT - Everyone gets lazy, and I have/can screw up just like everyone else on the road... 50 years experience or 5 weeks experience driving... no one is perfect.

I keep the minivan revving at 5000+ rpms just in case. You never know when you're going to need that kind of power... Plus powerslides in a 93' dodge caravan are the bomb.

Above average. I would like to get into autocross or take some race courses though. That would be fun and it would also improve my overall driving skills.

I'm aggressive/defensive in an SUV. I can probably hang with the NYC cabbies. 😉

Anyway, I think the biggest key to being a "good driver" is anticipation and that comes with experience.

I don't like the poll options... Why are you equating driving slowly with driving badly? And who's "driver x"? Anyway, judging by the fact that I signal, stay in my lane, don't cut people off or follow too closely, I'm far above average. As a kid I was a maniac, but have since calmed down.

This is true, there are so many drivers who don't signal/do really stupid things even though their age would suggest some level of experience which just does not seem to show at all.
It's an observable thing that a lot of drivers are useless and dangerous.

Being able to drive safely on roads has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with how well you pay attention...

sometimes i can be very unconfident when driving. i guess it was how i was raised to look at cars: "a vehicle is a weapon." that little lesson came from a variety of family members and it never left my mind. when my dad got into a near-fatal car accident two years ago, it was very scary for me.

consequently, i'm a defensive driver, but i don't like driving very much (new york may have something to do with that). when i drive to work, i'm usually in the left lane of the parkway and trying to follow, but when i lead, i'm going a good 15mph over the speed limit and it scares me at times. besides that, i follow all road rules to a tee, almost. i almost stop longer than expected at stop signs, since they're almost always in congested residential areas. i signal and i never follow too closely (i HATE it when people tailgate me, especially when i'm already going above the speed limit!)

Hmm...where the hell is the option for people who can't drive yet? I'm getting my permit this week. Although I do own in NFS2 (Jeez, I almost typed in NSFW, ugh).

if you are thinking NSFW but do not have your permit yet, you are too young to be on the internet. 😛
