Being able to drive safely on roads has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with how well you pay attention...

I would say being able to drive safely on roads is part of overall driving skill.

How much skill is involved in driving on roads? Gas, brake, turn. What's more important is being aware of your surroundings so that when you gas/brake/turn, you don't hit something. Racing requires skill, driving requires attentiveness which many drivers lack.

How many people live in your city?

Come to S. Florida's I-95, SR-80, SR-7.

Not true. The average person would not be surfing here on the Internet. Too busy getting stoned in their trailer park or is a soccer mom driving a huge ass SUV instead. If the poll was taken with a wider range of demographics, then your original statement could very well be true.

Big rigs (international transports semitrailers) passes me, as there are some advantages to have a big truck in front:
big trucks run with 60 miles per hour almost all the time
big trucks have big lights, and at night you can see very well
By the way their semitrailers move you find out where the holes in the road are.

Other than that, I am a sunday driver (a compentent one), and maybe a bit better than that

My dad use to drag race and race open wheel F1 style cars (no where near the power though) so I have been brought up on big muscule and high reving V8s. I happen to drive my dad's '69 Chevelle SS around town trying to look cool to the guy next to me as I slip the clutch out before the light turns green...

...

but I still manage to restart the car and shift into 1st and pass the kid/mexican next to me in the "tricked out" honda civic with a 4" exhaust and window decals (which by the way dont add hp).

Its probably not fair to race that thing on the street though- it has a 502ci stroker custom made and puts out nearly 900 rear wheel hp. The tires on it are the closest things you can get to drag slicks at 17" wide. Street legal in Ohio, one the only 7 states their legal in. Oh and its used for dragging at the stip with slicks on and runs a 9.73 quarter mile.

I can drive pretty good.:)
I got my drivers permit in 1974.

I have a CDL,and drive all types of heavy equipment at work,
including Big snow plow trucks with dual side wing plows.

I don't think I could win a Nascar race,but,
I don't think I would do too bad in a Demo Derby.LOL. ;)
