In good conditions, I'd feel safe going 100 at a constant rate.

Well...I do between 85-90 now on my way to work...I dont know if I would bumpt it up from that...maybe hit a 100 once in awhile but it all depends on conditions, people around me...etc, etc....

I'd average 90-100. The faster you go the worse you are on gas and wear on the car, so it's not like I'd cruise around at 110 all the time, though often times I would if I was in a hurry or something. I think speed limits in the US are mostly too low.

on californa freeways is late enough and no one on the road i have been aleady known to do 100+. driving lon distances like to vegas or from FL to TN (8 hours) 110-130 cruise control is common for me 🙂

I normally cruise at 80-95 on the motorways when conditions allow. I probably wouldn't go much higher, maybe up to 110-115, but any higher than 95 as the fuel consumption and room for error decrease exponentially! 😉

I have had the car at 125 (GPS recorded) for a bit before, but with the limit of 70 (and automatic suspension of licence for 2x the limit or 100MPH, whichever is lower), i didn't do that for too long! 😉

yeah,
without changing the gears 120mph would put me at ~5000 rpm...not good

on my bike i'd probably be doing helluva lot more... I'm a compulsive speeder when it comes to sport bikes, so I'd probably cruse at 120-130

without changing the gears 120mph would put me at ~5000 rpm...not good

hehe 120 on a bike is 5k rpm out of 13,000.. its basically idling =P

its a comfortable mix of speed and having to be aware

55mph is too slow, people get complacent. most motorways here in the uk are 70Mph and you can easily get away with 80-85, jus long as the traffics nice and steady, the police wont make to much fuss.

but if there was no limits, sure id try max out once or twice but i think my sensible self would butt in and id jus cruise round the 80-100 region

It depends on alot of things. But 85-100 would probably be the sweet spot most of the time.

Given ideal conditons with my vehicles:

Taurus: Around 90

Passat: 110ish

Hayabusa: 140-150

Oddly, the Passat does not lose much in mileage when going 90 vs 65. I have no good explanation for this.

HAHA yeah,
i ride at 5-6K in the city. My A4 quattro would be out of the power band at that point 🙂

I would definitely open it up on the CBR though - doing 45 in 45 zone is somethign i have to be consciously hinking about it, otherwise i'll end up speeding involutary.

People who don't ride sportbike won't really understand... but we all know what happens when you turn onto a 35-45mph road thats completly open with no cars around.

My 04 TL loves 120+. But fear of the law keeps me in the 80 to 90 range. Of course driving conditions and mental alertness takes priority.
