I seem to remember hearing that the Mclaren F1 was faster than an F1 car beyond 120 mph...I dunno about that though...maybe F1 cars are highly tuned for more medium speeds?

Anyway regarding G and cornering F1 cars use their fins and wings to get so much ground hugging that at regular racing speeds if an F1 car was driving on your ceiling (yes upside down) the wings give it so much grip that even upside down it could still corner faster than any supercar. Pretty good eh? :)

I wish they'd used real sports cars here though like a ferarri, not a damn sedan.

Haha those cars are extremely fast, that should satisfy your curiosity. To gain some perspective, in CART they are V8 turbo charged and Paul Tracey the driver for the Kool team was doing 250mph on the oval, that was while he was drafting though so on it's own power I suspect it may take him longer to get up there, just needs enough run away.

F1's are equipped with V10's Natural Aspirated, but I'm willing to bet it's able to do mid 200's mph as well. These are insane machines... and yes, I would bid 10.1 years off my life for a few laps.. and finally yes, I won't even be able to start the car :D I dont' drive manuel well, and these cars are really hard to maneuver as I understand it. :(

Those are fast..damn.

It's also worth noting that the McLaren F1 did an onofficial 243mph.

they did a similar stunt back in the early '80s on an oval track, so you had a better perspective of the ground covered by the F1 car.

I think they even used a superbike as one of the other vehicles, but not real sure.
But it was a better simulation of the F1's talent.

Yep, and just think that a few years back that they actually slowed down the F1 cars by restricting downforce and air scoop surface area.

It would still look slow next to the McLaren. :)

Notice the pit crew taking those wrappings off the tires? Those are heated blankets to keep the tire temps up. Not quite as hot as running a lap or 2 would do, but they're definitely not cold.

Also the gearing on F1 cars doesn't really allow them to go 200mph+. CART cars can hit 240ish mph on superspeedways b/c they have the gearing and the track to. I can't remember what the fastest F1 track is but even on a track like Hockenheim with its long long straight, the gearing on F1 cars also have to be setup for the tight, twisty infield portion.

And back in the lat 80s with F1 cars had turbo engines- qualifying engines were supposed to be generating over 1100hp.
