SuperGroove - sorry.
<< was quoted at $8-10,000 for the whole job done right and being capable of putting down 250WHP reliably. >>
why so high? the car itself is only $1500, the front clip (early models; on ebay) is only $1500-$2000. delivery is a couple of hundred. it should come out to ~$5000 to install a stock sr20det. front bumper, headlights and trim should be ~$500. it would be even cheaper if you could install it yourself. upgrading the internals and the fuel system to handle 400hp should be ~$1500 i think... it would be even cheaper if you do everything before putting the engine in to save on some labor.
<< If you want a real project car, just pick up a 68 camara and have fun with it. My friend has a 66 charger and its thee most badass car ive ever seen. With 383bb and some upgrades that thing has 400hp easy >>
find me one for $1500 and i'm sold...
<< Personally, I wouldn't make the 240SX an all-out drag car... >>
i'm not. i just want a car that's fun to drive. if i wanted a cheap drap car i'd just get an older z28 or 5.0. >>
Well, the car cost is not included. The engine block itself not with everythign that is required, costs about $2200-3000 unshipped. Then there's the cost of fitting ito the car correctly, because it is not exactly bolt on. Cost of fitting it in hours costs about 3-4000 from a generous mechanic, because it will take a long time. ECU, air conditioning, transmission, clutch, all of that will run you about $2000 more because while the engine may swap right in, there's other things to bolt up. From what i've gathered, air conditioning is one of the things you may sacrifice. I'm forgetting a lot of stuff but you might want to give those guys a call. I should've stated that I was shopping for a SR20DET swap in a S14.
I've heard of SR20DET swaps being done for $6000 on your own, but from what I've heard they're constant fixer uppers. Not to mention the hassle of the engine not being legal in the United States.
Why not just buy an S13, take the KA24DE and just turbocharge it? You can do it for significantly less than what it would cost you to do a SR20DET swap, AND you'll have that abundant torque available to you at all ranges. If you want I could look up the company that would help you find a turbo kit for a S13. On a side note, the fastest 240SX in the nation, is a turbocharged KA24DE.

Freshalloy. Do a search first, because the guys there are just as vicious as any other car nut board.
