But anyways, my old 280zx could raise some hell on some curvy back roads. How fast? Didn't matter, I impressed my now wife with my bad boy skillz.
Um, if you're going 100mph in a straight line on the freeway in light traffic the chances are very slim that you are going to crash. In fact, the biggest danger comes from the cars that are moving slower than you.
Now, if you're going even just 70mph on a curvy back road, the chances are already much higher that you're going to crash. Go 80mph on a back road and you better hope that you know the road well and that there are no blind curves where there might be a cyclist or maybe some gravel or whatnot.
Now, what happens if you actually do go off the road? On the freeway, you'll hit a fence or a concrete divider going sideways, so you're likely to come out of it without injuries. Hell, even if you were going 140mph a sideways impact isn't anywhere near as bad as a head-on or angle. It's all about the relative speeds.
On a twisty road? You'll smash head-on into a power-pole or tree, end up somebody's hood ornament, end up in somebody's living room, or go drown in the river below. Even at 60mph you're likely to be seriously injured if not dead.
