The speed limit is 55 and traffic is moving. It is a sunny day out.

For me, if there is a decent amount of traffic, I drive 80-85. If there is little traffic, #cheetah (101+.)

It really depends on what state you live in as each state has general levels of acceptable speed.

Depends on the road. Generally 60-64, but I'm never the fastest person on the road. I prefer someone else draw negative attention.

I leave early enough to change a flat if needed, so sometimes I don't even quite do the limit plus I prefer everyone just pass me as it's more relaxing to be away from all those dumb fuckers and enjoy my JL audio music system.

This.

Behaviors I've seen:

Southern Louisiana: If you're in the right lane, you're 5-10mph below the limit.
If you're in the left lane, you're driving at the limit.
Otherwise, you're off the road, getting a ticket. Srs business.

Pennsylvania: 5-20mph over the limit is normal, depending on where you are.
On the route I take to work, traffic in the 25mph sections usually move at 35mph. 35mph limit -> 45mph. 40 limit -> 50mph.
55 highway -> 65-70.
65 highway -> 75.
School zones: 15mph -> 15mph. They mean business there, and there really are kids walking in the area. (Contrasted to the school zones at my highschool and middle schools. The street was about 200ft from the school, and no one was ever out on the lawn there anyway. No one walked either. It was buses or be driven by parents. Or walk 2hrs.)

San Francisco, CA: ~65mph limit -> 10mph actual speed. Or get out and walk. Christ.

Depends on the flow of traffic.

Other answers may be self incriminating. ():)

Generally 10mph over the limit or less...I've been pulled over enough going faster than that when I was younger- just not worth it.

A little slower than the fastest drivers. Usually 65-68 or so is about right. That's the general "travel" speed around here, the people going slower are getting passed and the people driving faster are attracting the attention.

The two keys to avoiding tickets, don't be the fastest driver on a given stretch of road and don't do anything that makes you easy to notice. Tailgating, weaving, passing on the right, etc, makes you the target and you'll get picked out even if other people are driving a little faster.

A cop car was parked outside a donut shop the other day (hard to believe, but true) when an old lady was backing out of spot and not paying attention to anyone, put a nice ding in the cop's door and drove off.

I don't think she intentionally did it as she could barely see over the steering wheel and the cops didn't notice it right away when they came out with coffee and donuts.

They didn't seem pissed, more like puzzled how this happened.

Usually no higher than 80mph. If there is no/light traffic I keep to the center lanes to let the speedsters pass me. Otherwise either 75-80 or as slow as the person ahead of me.

On the in-town highway the limit is 60km/h so I usually drive that, but sometimes have to go slower because of the pot holes. Some areas will seriously wreck your car and it will cover both lanes so there's no avoiding those.

On out of town highways the limit is usually about 80 so I usually go around 90-95. I don't really do much highway driving though.

In SE MI usually everyone in the fast lane is going 80+, doesn't matter the posted speed limit.

Like others have said, it depends.

In general I go 7-8mph above speed limit on highways when traveling longer distances. If I'm out in the middle of nowhere and visibility is very good and the road is flat and straight I'll put the cruise control over 100. I think 108 was the highest I set my cruise control to, and that was on I10 out in Arizona during the afternoon. On highways within city limits I tend not to speed much and generally keep with the flow of traffic in the middle lane.

I cant even recall the last time I was on the interstate.
I used to go camping in the spring, aint done that lately. No need for the fast roads.

Usually about 120km/h, or 74mph for those still using the medieval imperial system. The posted speed on the 400 series is 100km/h but the provincial police aren't really bothered until you start going over a buck thirty. They're mostly on the lookout for impaired and aggressive drivers.

Now the City of Toronto owned expressways are a different story. Always see cops pulling people over for speeding along them. Generally speaking, you can do up to 10km/h over the limit on most roads without the cops batting an eye, unless it's a school zone or something. Most people do.

With a laser jammer and a Valentine, I drive at any damn speed I please, although never more than 100mph and more typically 75-85mph.
Also usually wait for a rabbit before greatly exceeding 80mph :)

80 which I don't go above. I've gotten a ticket for going 84, no one gets tickets for going 80 around here.

Around 75, sometimes I'll "shag" behind a semi about 100ft or so and save gas, I re-set my MPG counter and then slid behind a truck, in 2-3 miles it jumped from 31.5 to 32.6, I would imagine it would increase more if I got closer but I didn't think that would be very safe and I didn't want a trucker brake-checking me..

are there really 55 mph zones in LA? the i5 is 70mph.. ya? i go 80 in the 70.. but 80 in the 55 is begggggging to get popped..

i go 65 in the 55 and ease off when see the rollers.. but most the time cruise at 64.. really wish to get new radar detector but when had one was going 100 right till i see CHP in front me (musta had his radar off...) then i stopped driving crazy and using detector.. **tho i didnt get ticket i was worried** Zero points on license and zero speed tickets past 10 years and want to keep it that way..

actually tempted to rig some kinda break light button that disables one breaklight when getting pulled over.. maybe they give you fix it ticket instead speeding ticket.. (happened last time had break light harness that melted and pulled over for 84 in the 70))
