Speaking of powerful images, here's one. Although it's not an image, really. But words in image form.
One word: propaganda.
It's already been described in this thread that she was blocking the road, and you know full well that she did so in her prettiest dress because she knew there were going to be cameras watching her... and that her nearly-inevitable arrest might spark another riot after an "innocent" and pretty girl is taken away by the mean, bad, evil police.
Propaganda from top to bottom.
I'll be honest my first though was this

I know its not the same situation
I thought the people throwing around the term legendary was a bit over the top myself, more like staged somewhat.

someone that should, and was arrested for blocking a public road.
I'm entirely indifferent because I don't know the context. Her dress is quite nice, though not something that seems appropriate for protests.
Perhaps a nice tactical sundress with a smart kevlar bow around the waist.
This summer's protest fashions are both breezy and arresting, and gently scream "here I am...don't shoot".
Ok folks, now for the whole story. I live in BTR and what this doesn't tell you is that the Police here ALLOWED the protestors to completely block Airline HWY, (a major N-S highway through town) for a few hours so they could peacefully protest. As it got closer to night time the protestors were told that for their own safety they would have to move off the road and stay on the grassy parts than run along it. Because there are no sidewalks along Airline Hwy, once you step off the grass you are in the roadway.Airline has a 50 MPH sped limit so there was a danger that someone could get hit if they continued blocking the road.
The cops warned the protestors 3 TIMES via loudspeaker that they needed to move to and stay on the grassy parts for their own safety and if they crossed the white paint stripe that separates the grass from the roadway they would be immediately arrested. This woman stepped out into the roadway and started walking toward the line of cops and was immediately arrested. She was peaceful as were the cops that placed her under arrest. What is most telling is that of the 50 people arrested for demonstrating in Baton Rouge yesterday, 43 WERE FROM OUT OF TOWN. This photo was nothing more than trying to portray the big bad cops abusing the poor little protestor and totally misrepresents how peaceful both sides handle the protest. Another example of "you give me the picture and I'll create the story"
I see a young woman exercising her right to peaceful assembly and following in the tradition of nonviolent protest. I see the police doing their jobs. Both are overdressed for the occasion.
It's like satire but real life instead. Do they make a piece of armor that that cop is not wearing? I mean, is that toe armor?
people who block roads and refuse to disperse when warned should be arrested. they're breaking the law, and they should go to jail.
This is also part of peaceful civil disobedience.people who block roads and refuse to disperse when warned should be arrested. they're breaking the law, and they should go to jail.
