How does this make ANY sense? (GPU prices, even lower-end)

MSI Gaming GTX1050ti, not $150, not $200, no... $299!

Sold by BestBuy on ebay.

If GTX1050ti "deluxe" cards are going for this much, don't expect GTX2060 cards for same or less, sorry.

This is madness! Do people actually buy these for mining? My OEM NV GTX1060 3GB is only making less than $1 USD/day. It's almost not even worth running it.

https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-gtx-1050-ti?e=0.15&currency=USD

According to that, it will mine $16/month with NH, after accounting for electricity costs ($0.15 per KWh).

So, that's like 18-20 MONTHS for ROI. (*)

Still seems like companies are gouging more on GPUs, more than even miners would pay.

Basically, all retailers that I know of, seem to think all of today's GPU buyers are noobs, or something.

(*) Unfortunately, that's just a "snapshot in time" number, and, generally, as more people mine, the total hash-power and thus mining difficulty increases, which means, with a fixed pool of hardware, you would get less and less "shares", therefore less coins.

My GTX1070ti, which cost $500+, BEFORE prices went insane for GPUs, was estimated to make $140/mo USD. Now it's down to $70/mo USD. That's just in the span of nearly two months, of which there has also been some CC market "corrections".

Edit:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GeForc...MING-X-4G-4GB-128-Bit-GDDR5-PCI-/381836953495

Newegg has it for $239. Not quite as horrible a price, but still more than I'd want to pay.

Wow I wish I could find one for that price. Does not ship to Canada. :/ They're more like $800 here. The 1070's are close to a grand and the 1080's are well over a grand. It's nuts.

But check this out: https://www.amazon.ca/ATI-Technolog...C/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1519635436&sr=8-14&

I seriously need to see if I still have some of my old video cards from way back in the day, had no idea they were selling for that much.

Yeah, prices are big. But a return in 18-20 months is effectively a 50% ROI, which any capitalist would kill for.

Seems pricey to me.

Yesterday in the AM I checked BestBuy.com and they actually had the FE 1070's in stock for shipping. They didn't last long but they were priced at $429 so it explains it. Viewing the nvidia store they were out of stock and $399 so it was probably a smoking hot deal these days.

The 1050ti card was the card to buy as it was the fastest card that's not being used by miners and hence not massively expensive. Even if you want a higher end card you buy a 1050Ti as a stop gap until the better cards to get cheaper again. Hence I guess so many gamers are buying them they are starting to get overpriced too.

I saw this a few days ago on bestbuy.com too. When I clicked to add the card to my cart it said the card was not available for shipping, only for in store pick-up, and obviously there were none available.

I snagged this card for $160 when it came out. Used ones are going for $250. Hopefully the ASIC miners will push GPUs out of mining all together so prices will come back down to Earth.

I don't think people seriously buy those for mining in large quantities? probably more due to increased demand for gaming, since all cards are expensive those become more desirable for gaming.

Tulip mania is in full force.

It's astounding;
Time is fleeting;
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely
(Not for very much longer)
I've got to keep control

The bubble is going to pop.

Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Next year card prices will probably be sane again.

It's got nothing to do with increased gaming demand. People may not buy 1050Ti's for mining specifically, but they do buy up every single 6GB 1060 or better card out there, leaving nothing but the 1050Ti for gamers, so they get snagged. Add to that a shortage of memory chips and you get what we are and have been seeing today with low supply and high prices.

GTX 1050 Ti for $299.99 is pretty bad, but I am seeing even the GT 1030 increase in price compared to a month ago.

Until a new meme-coin comes around.

Everything is priced at least 1 tier higher at the moment: 1050s kost what 1060s should cost, 1060s cost what 1070-1080's should cost... 1080ti in the Titan territory. The same goes for AMD but the magnitudes are even higher.
And the best part is that there isn't much to choose from even if you're willing to pay those prices.

I wonder if and when'll we reach the point when even the new APU's are price gouged.

Yup, 1050Ti's are hitting $350-375 CDN from $220-230, RX 560's went from $170-190 to $260 too. People are buying them because they can't afford the higher end ones, so vendors are raising prices on these for no reason other than demand.

I'd love to see the performance per dollar charts before and after the price increase.

I doubt it. We have set a new bar, we never lower the bar once set. This has shown that gamers will buy low end cards for much more then they have been selling for if that is all that is available. My bet is that $399 is now the starting price of low end GPUs.

$400 for 2060, $550 for 2070, $700 for 2080.

I rounded up what I expect, because MSRP is a joke. I also expect Nvidia's XX70 lineup to be even further cut down.

I was looking at my 2016 Amazon purchase order history and my original MSI RX 480 GamingX 8GB cost me $295. Used ones are still being sold for over $400; new ones are closer to $600-650.

I would have bought sooooo many more Polaris cards when they were cheap...
