How does The Onion take such bright photographs?

Their photography is so good, in terms of color and brightness. How do they do it?

Notice how bright those colors are and how good it looks.
 
well, you can get a polarization filter to cut down on any glare and that really enhances the colors... other than that, photoshop does the trick
 
i found turning up the contrast 20 points in photoshop on all of my digital photos (even with other cameras) really improve the picture

how about this?

duh! I forgot to also mention that good film such as fuji reala, velvia, and provia will give you good color saturation and contrast.
