Their photography is so good, in terms of color and brightness. How do they do it?

well, you can get a polarization filter to cut down on any glare and that really enhances the colors... other than that, photoshop does the trick

Photoshop: Image --> Adjustments --> Auto-contrast or Auto-levels.

quality lens, appropriate light metering and a skilled photographic eye . . . and then Photoshop backup.

i found turning up the contrast 20 points in photoshop on all of my digital photos (even with other cameras) really improve the picture

how about this?

duh! I forgot to also mention that good film such as fuji reala, velvia, and provia will give you good color saturation and contrast.
