How does one acquire a root beer keg for a party?

Is this a do-it-yourself thing or do you buy it pre-filled?

And before you all start making fun of this, I don't drink and I live in a dry dorm on a dry campus where a real keg would get me kicked out anyway.

I remember one of the dorms throwing a party with a root beer keg. I don't think anyone went... though it is a novel idea and I applaude you for trying. As to where to pick one up, I don't really know. I wonder what kind of tap you would need....

I went to Chuck E Cheese's when I was 5, back when it was called something else. I thought the pizza and live entertainment sucked then. :p

UNO, actually. I guess it makes sense that Creighton would be a dry campus too though. :p

Interesting fact: If a faculty takes someone out to dinner and pays for it with school funds, any alcohol bought must come out of their own pocket.

I agree. You'll need a regular soft drink fountain set-up and many large liquor stores rent them.

You'd need:

Pre/Post mix fountain machine*
CO2 tank
5 gallon tank of root beer/Pepsi** (IIRC coke uses 3 gallon tanks)

*Post Mix requires a potable water hookup and carbonation pump and a box of syrup.

Odd, because I actually have most of that stuff here at the house.

How much you planning on spending?

It depends on where you are...Schell's Brewing Company of New Ulm, MN sells kegs of root beer. That's all i have. Oh wait, what about Henry Weinhard's if you are in the Pacific Northwest.

I don't have any concept of what this would cost, so how much should I plan on spending?

Which root beer manufacturer do they own? A&W would be the best, but I guess it doesn't matter too much.

Yeah it used to be called Showbiz.... Always the funnest birthday parties though. Beat the roller rink.

Just get a real keg and have some fun. They can't kick your entire dorm out.

They distribute Hires IIRC.

I think A&W is a cadbury shweppes brand.

I'm asking what are you willing to spend, because I can go to the garage, pack up the pre mix machine and sell you the whole damn outfit.

No, but they will kick ME out for planning the party and bringing the keg in. Do you see how this might be a problem? ;)
