How does Comcast have so much $ that they can buy NBC?

JEDI

Lifer
they have such terrible customer service that they tried to change their name to Xfinity as a marketing ploy.

yet even w/those horrors, they are spending $14B to buy NBC.

so i guess the lesson is that customer service doesnt matter in the cable industry? people love their cable no matter what?

2x rate hikes every year passed on to customers? Bandwidth caps and overages? No competition to drive down prices?

Any other questions?

Telling customers one thing on the phone, charging them something completely different on their bills?

I've had a number of other cable companies the past few years and I'm shocked that comcast has (comparatively) much better customer service than others.

Yep, most people just pay their bill and only watch a couple channels.

Got tired of it years ago and went over the air and now Over the Air Digital HD for free.

Another way to look at this, How did NBC alloy themselves to become so damn cheap that a cable company could buy them?

:hmm:

have you seen what shows are on that channel?
What wrong with the shows on NBC? I watch more NBC prime time shows than any other networks.

Chuck
Community
Office

I did watch the Tonight Show until Conan O'Brien got the boot.

The other shows I watch are:

Glee
Survivor
American Idol (just the performances)

Comcast is a company.

Companies offer products and services in exchange for this thing called "money".

People want these products and services thus creating a *demand* and are willing to give the company this "money" in exchange for the products and services.

The company uses this "money" to pay for the cost of these products and services.

Any "money" remaining is called "profit".

Companies save this "profit" to reward those who invested in them and to also grow the company.

well, that's what I'm implying. Though, admittedly, I probably watch their shows more than any other Network--particularly the Thursday night lineup.

I still don't understand why CBS is so damn successful. most of what they do is just smarmy crud. I mean...NCIS? wtf is that? All of those CI shows, too...gah.

There's this thing called a loan.

Some people view it as "how did NBC become so shitty and irrelevant that they can be bought for so cheap?"

I've only had bad experiences with Comcast. I bought a package deal from them it was $80. Then I started getting bills for $120. I paid them, but contacted customer service and asked why I was being overcharged. I was told that I did not buy the package, I ordered all the channels individually and that costs more. I said "How did I do that when you can't even do that when you order from the website? You can only pick the package deals." And their response "We have nothing record in our system that indicates how you ordered your service. Since there is no way to know we have to assume you ordered indivdually."

So I cancelled, returned the shit to their office that week. Then they take $250 more from my credit card saying I didn't return the equipment and I had to pay for atleast another month of $120 service. I went into the store, thinking that may help. I talked to their manager at the store, brought in bills, etc, and after going over computer records, and taking all my receipts and records, she said "You overpaid, we owe you atleast $120 dollars, but I need my supervisors to look it over to verify the exact amount owed." Her supervisor called me and said the lady I talked to made a mistake and I owe even another $120 on my bill ontop of what I was already being overcharged. Of course they didn't send me a bill, they just took funds from my credit card without my approval and I disputed with my CC and I lost because all my evidence was lost (The comcast lady at the store took it)

So I think in the end, I paid about $500 for a month of cable. I will never have comcast again, no matter what. I'd rather go without.

Comcast serves a total of 24.6 million cable customers, 16.3 million digital cable customers, 14.4 million high-speed Internet customers, and 5.6 million voice customers.

Do the math. If 60 million people send you $50 a month (# I pulled out of my ass) that's a lot of coin.

No photocopies or scan?

What they did was completely wrong, but you mishandled the overcharges. How is that their fault?

You're probably better going without.

You didn't get/demand a receipt showing you turned in the equipment or print out your order form when you ordered the service initially?

Fail all around.
