dear brothers and sisters

I am posting this on my FB and other social places - what could I add / change?

VERSION 1:

Ajit Pai, the current FCC chairman, used to be a top lawyer for Verizon is rushing forward with its planned vote to kill net neutrality on December 14th

He’s made it clear that he doesn’t care what the public, small businesses, or tech experts say, he’s planning to vote to kill net neutrality in less than three weeks.

Congress can still stop him, but they’ll only do it if we can keep their phones ringing off the hook. Will you contact your lawmakers right now?

Comcast, Verizon and AT&T want to end net neutrality so they can control what we see & do online. First, they want to gut FCC rules in a December 14 vote. Then, they plan to pass bad legislation that allows extra fees, throttling & censorship. But Congress can put a stop to all of this. Write them first, then call!

just take 2 minutes to do so https://www.battleforthenet.com/ OR https://www.callmycongress.com/

and tell your congress man/woman:
I urge you to stop the FCC's plan to end net neutrality *before* the FCC's December 14th vote.

I don't want ISPs to have the power to block websites, slow them down, give some sites an advantage over others, split the Internet into "fast lanes" for companies that pay and "slow lanes" for the rest, or force me to buy special "tiers" to access the sites and services I choose. But that's exactly what the FCC plan would do. Please read it: https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-347927A1.pdf

Blocking & throttling by ISPs is a serious problem. Comcast has throttled Netflix, AT&T blocked FaceTime, Time Warner Cable throttled the popular game League of Legends, and Verizon admitted it will introduce fast lanes for sites that pay-and slow lanes for everyone else-if the FCC lifts the rules. This hurts consumers and businesses large and small.

If some companies can pay ISPs to have their content load faster, startups and small businesses that can't pay those fees won't be able to compete. This will kill the open marketplace that has enabled millions of small businesses and created America’s 5 most valuable companies. Without strong net neutrality protections, Internet providers will effectively be able to impose a tax on every sector of the American economy.

Moreover, under Chairman Pai's plan, ISPs will be able to make it more difficult to access political speech that they don't like. They'll be able to charge fees for website delivery that would make it harder for blogs, nonprofits, artists, and others who can't pay up to have their voices heard.

If the FCC passes their current order, every Internet user and business in this country will be unprotected from abuse by Internet providers, and the consequences will be dire. Please publicly support net neutrality protections by denouncing the FCC's current plan. Do whatever you can to stop Chairman Pai, to ensure that businesses and Internet users remain protected.

Thank you!

If I'm right about people on Facebook, most people won't get past the first sentence before moving on. Need it to be something they can just glance at and get the point, even if it stretches the truth. How about:

12/14/2017 - The FCC is voting "YES" to change your internet service to this:
*post your image with the different plans here*

It won't matter, even with a massive outpouring of public interest, riots in the streets, and effigies of Ajit being burnt on the WH lawn, that fucking bill/repeal is going through and we're getting our tiered internet service. There's too much money involved at this point for it to not happen.

It seems fairly conclusive with the new tax bill that Republicans could not have any less interest in what the people want. Get busy pumping up their Democrat challengers for 2018 and 2020.

Before this devolves further into a political shit-slinging fest, let it be known that Hillary lobbied for SOPA support long before Trump moved Pai into his seat. Both constituents wanted this to happen because it would mean more money for them in the long run. Both Trump and Clinton are horrible people who are unfit to run a country.

Now, back to net neutrality.

If only more people understood this. This election was a farce and should have been a huge eye opener to where this country is headed...instead we just got a bunch of really dumb people who still think 'not voting for Hillary' is why everyone is upset.

Anyone see this yet? The "jokes" start at 20:00...

https://gizmodo.com/leaked-video-shows-fcc-chair-ajit-pai-roasting-himself-1821134881

One of the more egregious of Pai’s jokes, which reflects the frequent accusations that he’s a corporate shill, comes at the 20:00 mark. “In collusion—I mean, in conclusion, sorry, my bad—many people are still shell-shocked that I’m up here tonight,” he says. “They ask themselves, how on earth did this happen?”

Pai then rolls what he describes as a “leaked, 14-year-old video,” saying he can “no longer hide from the truth.”

The video is a skit which opens to 50 Cent’s “Go, Shorty, It’s Your Birthday” and takes place at “Verizon’s DC Office” in 2003, where Pai worked as an attorney before joining the FCC a few years later. A random Verizon executive tells him: “As you know, the FCC is captured by the industry, but we think it’s not captured enough, so we have a plan.”

“What plan?” Pai asks.

“We want to brainwash and groom a Verizon puppet to install as FCC chairman,” the executive says. “Think ‘Manchurian Candidate.’”

“That sounds awesome,” Pai responds.

We’d love to say it’s funny because it’s true. But for some reason, we’re having a hard time laughing.

Update: A helpful reader pointed out that the “Verizon executive” in the video joking about installing a brainwashed “Verizon puppet” as FCC chair (screenshot below) is actually Kathy Grillo, Verizon senior vice president and deputy general counsel.

I can't stand to listen to him speak. Not only does he have an extremely punchable face, but listening to him speak makes it even worse. His condescending tone is irritating beyond belief which I think he does on purpose since he knows he's universally hated by anyone who isn't worth millions.

Lately he's been mocking anyone on social media who mentions anything about him ignoring the New York Attorney General's investigation into the fake comments. He's extremely confident that the bill is finally going to pass this time which is unnerving since it makes me believe the senators who are publicly opposing him are going to get a huge "incentive" to change their minds right before the vote.

If certain isp's get out of hand speak with your wallet.

the internet is a utility. that's like saying don't use electricity or water if you don't like the rates your company is charging you.

also, i imagine there will be lawsuit over the FCC ruling the second it passes.

A new bill has been introduced which will prevent the FCC from ever messing with the rules of the internet (at least until their lawyers find some shitty loophole and they exploit it to turn their millions into billions, but until then...):

H.R.4585 - To prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from relying on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the matter of restoring internet freedom to adopt, amend, revoke, or otherwise modify any rule of the Commission.

Considering his years long opposition to net neutrality I sincerely doubt it.

The guy isn't playing 11 dimensional chess, he doesn't like net neutrality and wants to get rid of it.

Yeah, you're probably right. However, I do see an opening, regardless of his motives, that CONgress jump in and install net neutrality via law without Title II regulation so they could be the hero. Removing net neutrality is BIGLY unpopular (90%+ oppose removing - probably higher) so it would be well received should it be restored (as long as it was enforced and costs didn't rise to the consumer).
