How does AMD cpu work with RAM?

RAM frequency usage is limited by Intel CPU and motherboard FSB.

How does Athlon x2 CPU work with RAM? Will DDR2 800 run at full speed?

Yeah it will run at full speed. AMD uses a direct connection to the memory, there is no FSB. AMD processors connect to the northbridge through a hypertransport link, which is faster than Intel's FSB, but it doesn't make a lick of difference in consumer level computers, where it matters is multiple-processor servers. AMD uses a formula to figure the RAM speed based on the CPU core clock (which is 200mhz at stock). All this used to be lined out in a sticky in CPUs and Overclocking, but either it has been taken down or I'm thinking of a different forum.
