<< Don't give in to the llamas, Patrick! >>

I am sorry, but if you do have a question about something i advice you to send it to Gothsmoth instead of me, he seems to know more than i do...

I am leaving, i have sent the mail... but i will stay on this board long enough to say godbye to some friendly souls...

Thank you for your support...

I haven't seen whatever thread you are referring to, but don't you think you are taking this a bit personally? If 99% of the board likes having you around, respects what you say, and generally makes you feel welcome, do you really feel like you have to leave if 1% make you feel unwelcome?

If you really feel that you aren't learning anything at all by being here, and you think that arguing with a vocal minority is taking too much time then you are probably right to leave, but I'll be sorry to see you go.

Yeah, I did too... Finally someone PM'd me (Anti-social Virge) and told me it's "gothmoth" and gave me a link to the thread which, for some strange reason, I can't see to cut 'n paste here (it's gotta be Netscape6, haven't seen this one before)..

Woo... just read most of the thread. I don't think I've seen such a heavy-duty ragwar here on Anandtech before - without it getting locked.

Patrick: I've never really communicated with you before but I'm sorry to see an Anandtecher go because of problems on the forums. Take care and best wishes.

Patrick, my good fellow, show some fortitude!

I remember two years ago I had the whole board against me when I dared to claim that winmodems could equal hardware modems, or that partitioning yielded no benefits for the vast majority of users. Then, I was ridiculed, but today, I've earned enough respect that I'm considered a guru on those subjects.

Even in this transient community, a thoughtful, articulate poster will earn a good name over time.

I think the problem in the MSI thread was that the guy drew you into an argument with him as opposed to his argument. Yes, there is a fine line, but learn to walk it delicately and you'll be rewarded.

Patrick:

It would be a shame for you to leave this forum just because of one person. I know you have helped a lot of people here. I hope you don't leave, but if you do, I have enjoyed our civilized and intelligent conversations, and I will miss them..:( Good luck to you...:)

Patrick i dont want to see you go.

If you leave who will tell people how bad IDE raid is??

They will never know how good raid can be.;)

Your opinions are much better than that unknown Gothsmoth's flatulance he calls a voice.

You are a valued member of this board & i dont want to see you leave,I on some occasions have disagreed with you but that's what a Forum is for,an exchange of ideals.

Do not take Gothsmoth's views as how we all feel about you.

If anything you should stay here & continue to set people strait about the true meaning of PCResources.;)

You are a great PCResource to all of us here and i do not wish you to leave us for this 1 guy who has problems

<< between the keyboard & the chair >>

.

edit=i cant spell & try to correct my mistakes.

internet forums become an unpleasant place because people feel safer and less inhibited in attacking people in flamewars. the older I get the more it hurts my soul. I've just come from the video forum where people have been banned for posting with multiple names to persecute people. you Patrick probably would be better of leaving here to get on with something better, but he's contributing to the brain drain. we'll only have the uneducated, uninformed, unqualified left soon- AKA the typical forum flameboy

Patrick, Please don't "resign" from the Anandtech community. Experienced and helpful members are the basis of this community and we need all we can get. Just temper your ego and remember that one of the primary indicators of maturity is the ability to maintain a rational discussion and AVOID an arguement. Once you get "Mad" you lose alot of credibility. Just like when you're stuck in traffic ..... Nobody likes the guy that blows his own horn the loudest but everyone respects the guy that knows which lane is going to move the fastest. (silent lucidity) Let your experience speak for itself.

Many of "us" that have been Anandtech members from the beginning (the Geocities days 4 years ago) came here looking for an Objective platform. One where information and experiences are SHARED rather than forced upon us (ala Dr. Tom Pabst). Anand (et al) has maintained that Objectivity and "We" as members must also remain objective.

We all get sick of the Abit zealots sometimes PC Resources. They are worse then any Intel or AMD zealot, they just don't understand that Abit is not top quality and their RMA rate is very high. Abit is pulling a marketing scam all around.... they figure if they just put enough "features" on their board that their QA problem will just disappear with it.... and the problem is ITS WORKING! And reviewers who don't look at things like this are just helping them along!

I have no problem with people voicing an opinion, but too many people are taking it to a personal level because you don't like "their" board. Just ignore them I've learned to :) There are still many people who greatly appreciate your help and your opinions.

OK, I've kept quiet long enough:

<< they just don't understand that Abit is not top quality and their RMA rate is very high. >>

As I told Patrick time and time again in the thread, I've never had a problem with ANY of the Abit boards that I used so I was going to stand behind them. That was my whole point. But he kept insisting that Abit is crap and MSI is the "end all, be all" of motherboards. I then went on to explain that he couldn't just rag on quality issues/problems with Abit boards w/o mentioning all the problems people have had with the latest MSI boards. I never got personal with Patrick, but he DID get personal with me citing "ignorance" b/c I misread one of his responses...he later apologized. He was also quick to say that I was calling him biased when I did no such thing.

As I told Patrick, I respect his knowledge and his opinion...but most people do not take kindly to the "I am holier than thou" approach and that the "buck stops with him" when it comes down to testing motherboards. I know that he has a lot of knowledge with motherboards, but there is no need to flaunt it in front of others. It just seemed to me that he was throwing his knowledge in the face of everyone who disagreed with him by stating that he knows more about motherboards than anyone here and you couldn't possibly argue with him b/c he knows all.

I think that is what sparked the flamewar which insued...and it was then that I left the thread b/c I didn't want to be apart of it.

But, Patrick is a GREAT resource to this board and I don't want to see him go b/c of a flamewar.
