Goodbye Patrick,

Every forum has its own rate of evolution, as do the members that contribute to
it. If you think it is time to move on, then I wish you best of luck with your
other ventures. I see that it is more than this one flame that has made your
decision, that this has been coming for some time.

I too have had disagreements with you, and most of the time have simply stated
my opinion and moved on to another thread. The one time I didn't was to point
out that the air of authority you choose to carry in your posts (deserved or
not), could tend to make some people reject your advice because they don't like
being beaten over the head with -your- opinion. It seems that in this last
thread you met someone else who, like you, would not back down. This is
neither good nor bad, just an observation.

If I may offer a bit of friendly advice?
I think with your feelings on the matter now, even if you choose to stay,
you might find some benefit in taking a "vacation" from this forum for a
time - turn your energies to other activities in your life that you can
find more enjoyment, interest, and education with.

Disputes are part of the game, & how we learn. A good thing. Iron sharpens iron. Name-calling usually shows that the person is more interested in winning an argument than learning .. which is why most are here. Everybody has a bad day once in a while. Don't take it personally, & remember that nobody knows everything.

Drop the 'Am' from ur sig. It's awkward (PP am speaking). Should read:

Speaking for PC Resources

or even better:

Red Dawn, very good advice. I was going to post something like that but you said it all and better than I could have. I hope he does stay. He adds a lot of experience and help here. I usually don't need for much help but when I do need help, he is one of the people here I would ask for help.

Red Dawn, Cquinn...

I will take your advice, i will take some vacation from this site, maybe i will be back, maybe not... I will respond to PM's regarding news and help i can offer anyone...

Thank you all for your kind words...

Someone thought that i started this thread to gain attention, this is not true, i did it because i wanted to tell people WHY i am leaving, and to get the information about how to do it, that's all...

<< Drop the 'Am' from ur sig. >>

The only reason for the am in my sig was because of another person using the sig "Am NOT speaking for Compaq" over at Aces, i started using it back then, and i just stuck with it...

Always hate to see good members go. I have been a member of other boards and I have seen flamers and lamers come and go. Unfortunately, sometimes they make other folks go too - sometimes folks who really contribute to a community and freely share their knowledge and opinions with others. And let's face it -- we all have some of both, some knowledge and some opinions. And sometimes, we mix the two up. Regardless, both can be helpful. Though I don't always post as often as I'd like -- sometimes due to ignorance of a topic, sometimes because what I would say hads been said, sometimes due to a lack of time -- it's not because I don't think these forums are immensely valuable. They are. Even though I have given up on others, I always come back to the Anandtech Forums. If I have something to contribute to a thread, I always try to (even if it is just a little humor), if not, I'll read on and try to learn something new, maybe ask a question or two. Never had a visit where I didn't learn something here. One member used to have a funny sig. that denounced all the major recognized certifications in favor of the RTFM method of learning computers... Certainly one could change it and decry some of those certs in favor of these forums. I frequently learn more here in an afternoon than in a week of expensive training classes.

The resources in this virtual community always amaze me. I work in and around computers all day, every day. The folks I work with are generally knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge (it's not the private sector). Still, the folks here on these boards often have more collective knowledge than our whole IT staff combined -- 44k+ computer people are likely to know more than 30 or so, every time -- but the coolest thing is that they are also *always* willing to share that knowledge. People here know stuff about anything and everything. It's awesome and it trounces other boards I have joined -- only to leave soon after, disappointed. I have yet to find a group of people who are, on the whole, more knowledgeable and more willing to share their hard-earned wisdom. Anytime a community like this loses somebody like that, everyone suffers. Sometimes emotions run hot, but in the bigger picture, we all benefit from helping each other out. Take some time to think about it, but I hope to see you around these boards again one day.

--insert cheesy music here--
Sheesh! was that sappy or what? Sorry.

I really just wanted to stay "Can't we all just get along?"

Yikes! There I go again.

In all seriousness, though, these boards represent an awesome community. Let's not diminish it by letting emotional exchanges drive helpful contributing members out. Give it some thought.

Patrick,

re-think your decison of leaving the boards. You have provided much help for many members here - there will always be someone looking forward to your advice.
I am German, just as "Gothmoth". Idiots exist in every culture though. I apologize for this jerk.

Take it easy, take a deep breath before you intend to reply to foolish, ignorant responses, and everything will be just fine.

Posts still coming in here! Think this over befroe you leave Patrick! If we didn't give a toss we would ahve let you leave without posting a word here apart from telling you how to leave. We post so much to persuade you not to so don't leave is what we are all trying to tell you!

Albert.

I don't really know the threads Patrick is talking about but i wouldn't blame him. the internet gets real nasty. why should he take soul destroying abuse when he is trying to be genuine and informative? i have even read someone advising him in this thread who i know to be part of the nasty problem, but I'm too nice to name names :)

Well, you guys... what can i say... I will be back... But i will take the advice that Red Dawn and Cquinn gave me...

I will take some time off...

Everytime i log into this forum these days, my fingers are itchy, i want to tell people how to do it, how not to do it, what i believe is true and what i believe is not...

Thank you all, this thread shows that many people have respect for what i am trying to do here, even though we do not always agree you are sticking up for me here....

That is the one and only reason why i'm not leaving permanently...

Again, thank's guys, keep up the good work while i'm gone, try to help as many as you can...

You really do not have to apologize for this jerk... I have lived in germany for three years, so i do know that germans are generally good people... he was a jerk, you are not, and most of the germans i have ever been in contact with were not....

If you are wondering what i did in germany, I was there in military business, NATO business that is...

I think the german population as a whole are kind, well educated people...

If you apologize for him, that means that you feel some sort of responsibility toward his actions. But he has provided no proof besides saying that one of his parents is German. BTW, I'm scared to read his profile. ;)

Yeah, no doubt. I disagree whole heartedly with all your Anti-ABIT bullsh!t ;), but that's ok, because we're humans and we're supposed to disagree. Hell, if we all had to agree with each other, it'd be a dull world.

Simply put, if you take a firm stance on something in these forums, prepare to get flamed for it. Most everyone on these forums are hell bent on being right, are you simply are another one of those people!! You should feel like one of the gang!!!

We are all Human and mistakes happen. And also these are Discussion Forums so there is no absolute right or wrong. We express our own views.

<< And how do you qualify what he says about Abit as Bullsh!t Chucky? Have you tested the sheer number of boards he has? How about a few hundered? Have you every had to recall 40 systems due to Faulty Abit Boards? I have and in my book that makes them unreliable. >>

Dammit, I thought we had already exagerrated(sp?) the fact that these are discussion forums, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. For you and him, since you have 'allegedly' tested so many ABIT motherboards, and you've had so many fail, you perceive ABIT to be badly manufactured boards. In my experience, which includes my own ABIT motherboard, plus a lot of friends who own ABIT motherboards, a lot of friends with whom I work with, I perceive ABIT motherboards to be stable. Obviously, you have a much higher standard for these boards than I do. And do you know what that means?? It means jacksh!t.

I didn't post in this thread to bash his or your opinion of ABIT motherboards, I posted to try to point out that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and with this board, you have to get used to that, because each and every person will push it down your throat until you agree. You are the same way Red, and you know it. That's what makes you so deadly to others on this board, because you don't care to say what you think. I enjoy your opinions, so please write me back, I'm interested in hearing what you respond with. :)

<phew> I just read thu the entire MicroStar K7T Turbo review flame thread.

Mike made some very good points in his post, and I can say that I agree on the assessed situation. Patrick, you jumped into a flame war like many of us have at one time or another. We respect you as a person, and your testing ability, but DO NOT force your thoughts (opinions) on everyone you speak to. Most of us have a decent background in this field, and we are very well aware of "what works and what doesn't". Take some time off, and come back to the forums when you have calmed down.

I have to agree on that one. It also summarizes what I would have written should that reply been directed to me.
