We all play them and have an entire city in the basement + 2 train sets. I will post some pics one of these days but we have a LARGE collection. Heck we just had a neighborhood lego party not too long ago......kids of all ages loved it.
I actually enjoy sorting Legos/organizing. I bought bunch of small plastic containers (rubbermain I think). I have larger ones as well.
Mind you, I would NOT do this for very young children (up to 7-8) as you will find yourself sorting A LOT.
I actually build legos so.....I sort them in the following order.
Blocks by color in separate bins
Angled pieces/roof pieces (all colors together)
Separate Large Plates (bigger than 2x4) all colors together
Separate Small Plates (2x2 - 2x4) all colors together
Thin plate pieces (1x) all go into one small container.
Special plates (angled etc) all colors
House bin (doors, windows, trees)
Car pieces (cockpits, seats etc)
Wheels pieces
Large plates (all colors)
Translucent pieces (all colors)
I find this to work best when I need to find a piece. Once you get most pieces together, sorting thru color is no big deal.
