How do you shoot blue flames out the tailpipe?

Saw the trailer for 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the cars in there were shooting blue flames out the tailpipe... Is that even mechanically possible? I mean, wouldn't you be burning pure fuel in the tailpipe by then?

They rig a spark plug on the tail pipe and blow some fluid through it. It doesnt mean the engine is shooting out flames.

it's the same principle of how fighter jet afterburners work. pumping fuel into the exhaust.

Or better yet, get a .99 bic lighter stick up to your but, but first make sure you have to fart, light the lighter then fart..and there ya go a blue flame

no no, I know how they use spark plugs to shoot flames out the back of the car... my question is how do they shoot BLUE flames... I mean, wouldnt you have to burn some high octane race gas or ethane to get the flame to burn BLUE?

I have no intention of seeing this film, nor do I want to ever do this to my car... I am just wondering if this is mechanically possible or just some hollywood trick...

Yes... In fact that's why flame shoot out of the tailpipes of real racecars... They run a really rich air/fuel mixture, and the unburnt fuel gets ignited by the hot tailpipe on the way out...

But I haven't even seen BLUE flames on real racecars, only orange flames... Hence this question/post...

Actually it's because the A/F mix hasn't fully combusted yet and is still burning as it passes through the exhaust valve and into the exhaust system.

What do the color of the flames matter, anyway?

Well blue flames is a lot hotter than orange ones... I am just wondering if it's actually possible to have the A/F mixture burn this hot in the exhaust, or is it just something hollywood did to make the cars look 'cooler'....
